Just installed 1.30 firmware and its new SharePort 1.10 utility on my Vista Ultimate x64.
1. SharePort doesn't work (neither installed as 32 bit, nor as 64 bit app) - doesn't see the network, nothing. Also the Status screen shows NO pc connected, and in previous firmwares it did! It may be the reason SharePort cannot locate the router.
2. Advanced DNS under Manual Network Setup when checked defaults dns to 204.194.232.200 and 204.194.234.200 which is the 302 Direct Media LLC??? And there is no help/explanation about.
It makes me very nervous as directmedia.com is a marketing company!
3. There are some minor glitches with Save Settings
Thanks DLINK in advance

I should smite you for upgrading!

yea check this out:
http://directmedia.com/
If you check that you are opening yourself up to complete marketing phishing!
what do the moderators say about this????
-
Well, mind you it's 302.directmedia.com. Though there is no much info about them and the site is just been registered this month who knows by whom and what for >:(
I personally use OpenDNS - simple and open :)
-
Could be the SecureSpot DNS :-) Securespot is a commercial product, so that would not surprise me at all.
-
Good point! However, I specifically disabled SecureSpot. The Advanced DNS setting is on a different page and not, or should not, relate to SecureSpot! DLink must make it clear what that is.

Direct advertising. Now when you upgrade to the 1.3 firmware you get advertisments plastered all over your browser ;)
-
Or backdoors, clicking "add to basket" automatically ;)

Where does one get Shareport 1.01 for Mac?
-
Arbalet can you post a link to that shareport utility please for the rest of us..........
-

Hey, thanks for the link. Now--how the heck does one install that thing? I've never seen a piece of Mac software that looks like that. Also, no directions. The manual is Windows.

I'm a PC, so I have no clue on installing MAC Stuff ;D

Direct Media is the holder of OpenDNS. They are OpenDNS servers.

Told everybody in another thread to hold their horses, but this is 'checkmate' 8)

1. OpenDNS has these IPs: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220, not 204. etc.
2. There is "Direct Media" and "302 Direct Media"
3. In any case, why don't DLink say what that is? It MUST be said EXPLICITLY in the manual , in the router help and in FAQ!
IT'S THE SECURITY, STUPID!
Cheers

Ever considered a 'close reading course'? The IP's in the Dlink are private OpenDNS ip's. They have already explained what the IP's are. It's some Kafkaësk paranoia that's seems to have struck you (and others).
DLINK JUST SEEMS TO HAVE MADE A DEAL WITH OPENDDNS TO GET THEM PRIVATE OPENDDNS IP'S.
Just like Netgear (or whatever B-brand), but Dlink is not (yet) exploiting this in commercials/ads.
-
If these are opendns servers hows about going a little further with the integration. I have an opendns account have the router update my ip with them automatically so I can keep my custom opendsn settings. I have never bothered to install any client software on computer so most of the time I am getting basic usage. This would solve that.
Basically the same way the router updates my account with dyndns.
-
Yes I have already requested this feature in the dyndns page

This is intriguing. What would the benefits of this be out of curiosity? I'm not baiting this issue. I'm wondering if there are added benefits specific to a D-Link hardware owner that make this option better than my own OpenDNS account. Speed? Reliability? Primarily I ask this because there is nothing on the help pages for this whatsoever.
I use OpenDNS and am generally happy. I did have to add custom information on the ''Tools/Dynamic DNS'' page drop-down to facilitate automatic updating for OpenDNS (''Server Address: updates.dnsomatic.com'' and ''Host Name: all.dnsomatic.com''). It would be nice by the way to have OpenDNS already provided for in the drop-down.

It's optional, you can change it back to whatever DNS you want to use. Personally I think there could be some speed benefits, the regular OpenDNS servers are not the fastest (probably) due to the amount of users (measured it against other free DNS ;) ). Or maybe these DNS addresses also are used by SecureSpot and thrown in as a bonus. I don't use SecureSpot so I cannot check.
