Title: DNS-325 and FIOS!
Post by: Lgoleb01 on September 20, 2012, 06:53:41 AM
I have a DNS-325 attached to a FIOS modem which has a build in router and wireless n+ access point. i am having a problem logging into FTP when i am on the same network as the NAS. Outside of the Network i am able to log in without any issues. can anybody recommend a possible fix for this? it seems as if the router causes the devices in the network to share the IP. also i cannot use the NAS as a media server and it is discoverable by my PS3 and my LED TV as a media source but no files are visible. thanks in advance.

What model router do you have?

Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.

One thing I recommend when using routers and doing lots of file xfers between devices on the LAN side, get a external Gb network switch. This helps eliminate router management and processing interference while doing xfers between devices on the LAN side of things. Most routers with the ports in back have some sort of management processing going on on the ports thus there is some degradation on speed as it's having to process the data thats coming in and out of it. Having a external switch eliminates this.

xfers on LAN is not a problem i can see the NAS and access it as a Mpped drive. The issue is if i try to use an ftp client to log in it wont let me, and will time out. and i cant acces the DLNA server.  when it was routed through a DIR655 it was working ( TWC modem and DIR655) since i switched to FIOS and i got the combo modem with a 4 way router i CANT access the DLNA and the FTP if i am on the same LAN as the NAS.

Seems like this might be a configuration or syntax configuration with FTP program. Being the the same side with the PC and NAS, the FTP program shouldn't have any issues connecting.

Is uPnP enabled on the 655?

The ISP modem shouldn't impact the LAN side connections. Are you getting a private or public IP address on the WAN side under Status/Device Info on the 655?

One thing to try is to set a static IP address on the PC and NAS, then directly connect the PC to NAS with out the router. See if you can connect then or try a switch. Switches are good things to have.

Also disable any 3rd party Firewall programs temporarily while testing.
Set SPI NAT on the 655 to EndPoint Independent to be sure. Shouldn't have to but just in case.
