Title: Center antenna weak signal
Post by: sm00thpapa on November 12, 2012, 01:49:30 PM
Just curious if anyone else has had this issue. I have tested each antenna separately. With each antenna attached one at a time the left and right antenna is giving me -20 signal. The center is only giving me -65 signal. Is this a problem with the router or normal? I noticed that the center pin is pushed in more then the left and right. Don't know if that is the cause.

I can check mine when I get home...if the center pin isn't protruding like the others, could be a defect in that connection.  ??? I know the antennae are all the same.

I checked my center pins on my 655, they are all protruding out equally. Looks about a little less than a 1/8th of an inch maybe from the base of the white plastic. I would presume that your has been pushed in by accident or was a defect out of the box maybe. Not sure if it can be fixed unless you open up  the router, unsolder that connector and put in a new one.  ::)

I also noticed that the center mount has a nut on the end of it. The center pin is maybe just 1/8 of an inch of less shorter. Don't know if that really makes a difference. I bought it in March so it should still be under warranty.

Are the nuts loose, you can finger tighten them or use needle nose pliers and tighten them. If this doesn't work or seem to fix it, I would call up D-Link and get it to RMA. Those pins should be protruding equally to make good contact with the antenna connector.

I wonder if anyone else has tried this test? I know everyone puts all 3 on then turns the router on. Maybe I'm not the only one with this issue. I did email for an RMA and waiting for a reply. This is really annoying as I really like this router.

For quicker response I would recommend that you contact DLink support via phone. The few times I've sent email, I was always told to phone in.  >:(

Ask for level 2 or higher support.

Got the email back and they said to call. May call tomorrow or just ignore the problem since the other 2 antennas put out great signal.

Just called D-Link and received the RMA a few minutes ago. They said they will either attempt to fix it or send out a replacement unit. If they send out a replacement unit I really hope it is a brand new sealed one Version B1 and not an older model. Kind of nervous as I love my 655. I will keep you posted on the results.

I would take a pic of the label under your current router for reference. You should get the same Rev as your current router. Not sure if they still hand out any Rev As and presume it should be a Rev B. Keep us posted.

Thanks, good info Furry. I'm sending it back in pristine condition and just hope I get one back in the same condition.

Just received an email a few minutes ago stating they shipped it back today. Just hoping it's a brand new sealed revision B1 model.

Hey Furry do you think they will send me a new sealed DIR-655? I'm kind for nervous and don't want a refurbished one. Hopefully I get it this week.

All DLink products are not sealed persae, they are in a anti static bag and a sticker closing one end, new and refurbs. Didn't they say if they could fix yours you would get yours back?

They said they sent out a replacement Rev B1. That's the only info they gave me. They didn't say new or refurbished or anything.

Keep us posted on when you get it. I would keep the FW version it comes loaded with and test it before doing any FW upgrades.  ;)

Just got the router a few minutes ago and hooked it up with the firmware it came with which is 2.07NA. They sent me a used DIR-655-SW. At least it looks used the way it came in a used box and used stickers on the router itself. But is seems to be working properly. Just curious what is the SW in the model name stand for? Never seen that before.

Not sure what SW means. Usually I see RE means "refurb". Let us know how this one works out for you.

Well at least all 3 antennas are putting out a signal this time. Though my old WTR54GL is putting out a much stronger signal in the same location. I did some research and the SW was a anti virus software package they threw in with the router. Seems this router was produced in 2010 and the one I turned in was a 2012 model. Any hardware differences in B1 models over the years? So far so good handling light wireless duties right now.

I take it SW stands for Software as it includes a 1 year anti virus program from CA.
