Title: Receiving erroneous blocking from Advanced DNS Service
Post by: vdolcourt on November 13, 2012, 06:37:28 PM
Just today Advanced DNS Service began to block a US Government site that I use to receive information. Advanced DNS Service says that links.govdelivery.com/<lots more stuff> is a known phishing site. Actually, it is the means for Healthfinder to deliver web pages. I've turned off Advanced DNS Service in my router; however, I like the thought of it being around to protect me. But somehow, whomever maintains the DNS black list has erroneously added this URL. Is there a way to get this ugly problem reversed?

Disable Advanced DNS Services.

Thank you for the reply. I've disabled Advanced DNS Service. But is there any way to let the keepers of Advanced DNS Service know they have made an error?

You'll need to phone contact DLink support office and talk to them about this. I would talk to someone at Level 2 or 3.
You might also try using DynDNS or openDNS as well. DynDNS is ran by DLink I believe.

Let us know how it goes and hope it works well for you.

Advanced DNS is a service of Best Path Network, a subsidiary of OpenDNS. And it seems links.govdelivery.com isn't just blocked by them, but Google DNS too. So there is nothing wrong with the Advanced DNS feature. OpenDNS detected the site, probably from user input, as spam, and probably for this reason:

"Tracking is often justified as legitimate automatic data gathering on users, however few, if any, email delivery and tracking services disclose tracking information with each email, offer no tracking opt-out choice, provide no guarantees of anonymity or against misuse of the user data, and seldom point to either the privacy policies of the service or those of the services' customers (albeit, no privacy policy is believable). This suggests deliberate deception and lack of accountability of both the services and their customers, and in this manner replicate the deceptions of vilified email spammers."

Only thing you can do is contact the site admin and ask him to work with the DNS providers to get unlisted, or not use those DNS services.
