Hi, I just bought a DIR-655 B1 to replace my A3 2 days ago. However, I found out that the wireless speed is really slow on the B1, both router has the same setting as below:
Mode: N Only
Channel Width: I tired auto 20/40 and 40 only
Security : WPA2 Personal
Encryption: AES
Here is what I have tested, I put both router side by side and my PC is about 6 feet away from them. I turned my old A3 DIR-655 on and do the transfer speed with my desktop and I got around 8-9 MBps. I then turn off the A3 and turn on the B1 and did the same test but i only got 1.5-3 MBps. I redo the test with both router for like 20+ times and i got the same result.
I also tested with 1 iPhone 4 and 1 iPhone 5, the funny thing is on the wireless status page, it show that both of the iPhone is 11n @ 65Mbps speed with the A3 DIR-655. And it showed 11G @ 54Mbps for my iPhone 5 with the B1 Router.
Did i happen to anyone? I am planning to return it but before that I want to make sure my setting is right.
Thanks

oh I forgot to mention both of my A3 and B1 router has the latest firmware and both routers and my laptop is in the same room.
And also, when I check the wireless status on my laptop, it shows 150 Mbps for the A3 and 65Mbps for the B1.

What channel are you using? Auto or a manual channel? Recommended is 11.
My 4S shows 65 on my B1 with 2.10NA loaded and prior versions. Anyone else using the Wifi when your testing?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/) to find out. How many?
Possible that Rev A is a Draft N with out any Good Neighbor policy built in like Rev Bs and more recent model routers.
Was factory resets performed after FW updates applied and was the router set up from scratch or did you use a saved configuration file afterwards?

I tried Auto Channel and Channel 1,6,11 manually, there are 5 wireless routers in my area. I forgot to mention in my previous post, I have disconnect all of my 2.4GHz cordless phone too just to be safe. I did factory reset after the firmware upgrade then set it up from scratch, both of my router setting is exactly the same.
I just did one more test with my B1 earlier today, but still got the same result, I just don't understand why 2 router in the same place, same setting and same devices connected to it but still old one > new one.... here is what I got from my previous test:
With A3:
Laptop Wireless Status: 150Mbps
iPhone 4 : 11n @ 65Mbps
iPhone 5 : 11n @ 65Mbps
LAN Speed Test software: 9Mbps Down, 8Mbps Up
With B1:
Laptop Wireless Status: 65Mbps
iPhone 4 : 11n @ 65Mbps
iPhone 5 : 11g @ 65Mbps
LAN Speed Test software: 1.5-3Mbps Down, 0.7-1Mbps Up
Please help.....

Have you tested with SPI ON and OFF?
-
Not yet but I rather has it on...I just don't understand why there is a different in term of wireless speed while 2 router has the exact same setting...I guess I will just return the router and move on.... :(

Possible it's defective too. If you can return it, then thats probably a good course for you.
Good Luck.

Different internal hardware between the models. Some of the older A models had the better stuff inside them. As the chips got smaller and cheaper more companies started to use them to make more money per unit.

I would recommend trying v2.03 or v2.07 FW. v2.10 is not really stable and we've found a bug in it so it's not stable from our stand point.
