Title: Are my two hard drives mirroring??
Post by: Clarkers on December 04, 2012, 11:58:53 AM
Hi
I bought a DLINK sharecentre to centrally manage all my files.  I have installed two hard drives, and I want them to mirror one another.  I have loaded some test files onto to Volume_1, but these aren't appearing on Volume_2 when I look on file explorer in Wondows.  Should the same files be in both drives?  I would assume so...
So I logged onto the Dlink Sharecentre Manager, and it appears Vol1 hard drive is set to mirror (RAID1), whilst Vol2 is set to JBOD.  I suspect that they aren't mirroring, and Volume-2 is set up as additional storage.  Should I reconfigure the hard drives and start again?!!  :-[ Thanks in advance for help!

You need to configure both HDDs as part of the same RAID-1 (i.e. for mirroring).  JBOD is a different HDD configuration that is unrelated to RAID-1.

Another point to consider is whether your data is backed up. RAID-1 (i.e. mirroring) is NOT a backup.  Please read the following post: DNS-320 - Data Backup vs. Redundancy (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=46509.0)
