Title: 2TB External Hard Drive is not recognized
Post by: sajjadhussaini on December 07, 2012, 07:24:58 PM
Hello Friends,

I have updated my Firmware to 1.05 for my device DIR 505, I was soo much happy that I got a handy stuff for myself.

I have Seagate Goflex External Hard drive with power cord and I have formatted using fat32formatter free software with help of article from google search. Since, I use windows 7

Now, my problem is that when I Connect my external hard drive to the device's USB in the router config it is not getting recognized as I tried many times using different software as well.

First I tried NTFS format then Exfat and then fat32 format. but I don't know its still not getting recognized.

Please if you have any solutions let me know. it would be great if any guy help me out...

Else, this device would be waste for me... :( :(

Been told that 500Gb is the max supported size the DIR series routers will support. Some have been able to use 1 or 2Tb sizes as my 2Tb WD My Book from 2008 works on a few of my routers here using Shareport v4. I presume that newer routers such as the 505 may not see your newer external 2Tb drive. Is the 505 your main host router?

Thanks for the reply FurryNutz..

yeah, i am using 505 as my main router to access internet and trying to establish media sharing.

I searched many product for my home use which is cheap and usable. But, I found this as useful and I purchased it. I read many places it didn't set any limits of 500gb or less.. I could only see is "Supports external hard drive" hence I bought this equipment. What would be the solution for this dude... :(

I don't think there will be any solution or using the 505 with your external drive. One thing I would try, is get into a USB to LAN adapter maybe and see if you can use an adapter to connect to using an IP address. I think that since this particular model router doesn't see your drive, the USB 2 LAN adapter maybe a better solution.

I want to connect to router. any product you know or link forward me.. :(

I also have another D Link Router which has 4 LAN, I wanna connect my USB 2TB Hardrive to router or network.

You might want to try the 615 and see if it works there. Try using Shareport v4 and test.

Hey Bro.. that is secondary support software. My 615 router doesn't have any USB plug there is no Female USB to LAN adopter.

Anyways, thanks for the help. I thing rather I would go for high in few days or week for NAS. This would be better option for my network drive..

Its nice to know you..

Thanks..

Tc
Bye....

Share port is 2nd Sw support.
Do a Search on the web for USB to Ethernet adapters. They do have them. I would recommend connecting the USB drive to a PC and share it out that way.

If your wanting good file xfer speeds, NAS and wired LAN connections is preferred over using USB ports and USB HDD devices.

Good Luck.

The 505 can handle drives at least to 2TB.  However, the 505's USB port can't deliver enough current for many external hard drives (the newer 505L supposedly can). I have some drives the 505 can power and some it can't. The symptom of it not working is not always obvious - the drive may spin up but not be recognized.
