Not sure if this has been asked or resolved before, but I couldn't find any relevant topics on this.
Anyway, the original problem was found on factory firmware 2.0 (and still persists on 2.02 and the newest 2.03) and manifests in the following way:
If I create additional users besides the admin and assign them custom privileges to different shares, everything works fine (or at least pretty fine) using the windows explorer (probably works using other OS file explorers as well), giving access to where it is granted and denying where it is set so.
This is all fine and dandy.
But if I log into the webUI with said account and access the web file server there, I cannot see any shares unless the user has R/W rights on ALL shares. Giving R rights on ALL shares doesn't show anything, neither does giving R/W rights on Volume_1 & Volume_2 do anything (unless they are the only shares set). Only when the user is granted R/W rights to every single share that exists on that NAS can s/he see the shares (all of them).
This is a bit problematic, since I'd like to give few people access to selected shares with only read-rights (I think I could do with R/W rights in a pinch, but only to very specific share). Now I cannot use the web file server for anything else than my own pleasure, since I'm not going to give access to all my data to any people (backups, configs, media, software licenses...) since a) they don't need to access it b) I don't want to worry about them accidentally deleting or corrupting said data.
Has anybody else have noticed similar issue and possible a workaround to this? I don't want to use FTP, but so far it seems that if I want to benefit from this unit more, I need to install the FFP and use SFTP for remote file access.

I have the exact same problem described above with the Web File Server and it's driving me crazy...
The same issue occurs with FTP.
If I login as a user with r/w permissions to "all" shares, FTP (FileZilla) will connect and display the folders
Any other user, and FTP stalls at "MLSD" and will fail to display any folders with message "Failed to retrieve directory listing".
More info:
I have 2 x 1TB HDD set as RAID1 therefore everything is installed on "volume_1".
If "Volume_1" is the only network share and is set to "R/W" for everyone, then it will display in the Web File Server for users.
If any sub-folders of "Volume_1" are setup as network shares other than "RW" to users, then users will not see any folders at all, not even "Volume_1" root folder which all users should have access to.
I certainly do not want everyone having read/write access to the root folder.
This sucks so I cannot setup any remote access for individual users, it's ALL ACCESS or none at all.
Does anyone have a solution or workaround to this?

Oddly enough, I got mine to work ???
I removed my existing network shares, then setup new groups:
- Family
- Kids
My existing "Volume_1" share grants access at individual "user" level only and NOT "groups".
My "Volume_1/Public" share grants read/write access to everyone
My "Volume_1/Movies/Kids" is shared at "group" level with "Kids" having "Read" and "Family" having "Read/Write"
My "Volume_1/Movies/Grown Ups" is shared at "group" level with "Family" having "Read/Write"
All users by default now have access to "Volume_1/Public" and I now assign them to specific "groups" to access the folders I want.
Not sure why it didn't work before but I'm guessing I must've had a mixtures of permissions set at "user" and "group" level and one of them took precedence.
I'm happy now, and I hope this sort of helps others in the same boat.
