Title: DNS-320L - Firmware v1.01b03 Comments & Observations
Post by: JavaLawyer on December 17, 2012, 11:13:33 AM
D-Link released firmware version 1.01b03 for the DNS-320L A2 and DNS-320LW A1 Here:

How to find out the hardware version for your DNS-320L:
DNS ShareCenter - What Hardware Version is my ShareCenter? (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50576.0)

Note: There seem to be some odd naming conventions with the link names and file names, so read carefully.

My wishes :

- [MyDlink] : Possibility to manage rights on files. When you connect via MyDlink iPhone App you get total rights on all the files.
- [General] : It misses a Explorer Like App with two windows in order to move files, copy from USB to NAS or NAS to USB, folders, files, etc...
- [Photos and Vidéos] : Ability to post to services like Google Picasa, Fliker, ...
- [BUG General] : Shutdown doesn't work. Reboot is not clearly visible. Does it reboots ? Leds never stop blinking.

That's for now ?
Any due date for a new firmware on 320L A2 ?

Cheers.

GUI seems more responsive, can't seem to fine anything to do with the webserver, as listed in the release notes though.

Depending on where you downloaded the file, the firmware may be in a archive (zip or rar). If you haven't already done so, please try expanding the file to extract the firmware.

Thanks for a comment.

Hardware versions A1 and A2 are two separate builds of the DNS-320L. Different hardware versions typically include subtle changes to the physical technical specifications, which sometimes impacts compatible firmware.

Since the v1.01b03 firmware file was loaded onto the D-Link USA FTP site with no reference to hardware version, I would presume A1 will work, but this is only speculation.

Hi,

it is quite simple. Just download the firmware, unzip it, after it you can upload your device and the system management -> firmware upgrade. Please follow the instructions. (wait until it is finish, it takes few minutes..)

Thats all.

I have upgraded to firmware 1.1, Firmware Date    09/14/2012.

I'm having problems with
1. P2P Client - Bigger files are messing up things: 10GB+ files (HD movie, iso, etc.) when downloading after time the download stops. In the status bar the speed is not changing after refresh. When trying to stop and start it restarts, checks the downloaded part (it takes long) and continues for a while... than the same. I used to restart the device, than it works for a while.

2. FTP Server - I have set up the FTP, properly I think. When trying to connect from outside, in TotalCMD I get an error: Port Command Failed, in WinWSC: Could not retrieve directory listing. When I check the nas logs it says user is logged in (and out). What could be wrong?

When will be a new firmware release?  ???

Hi,

Thanks in advantage.

If by "reset" you mean purging the DNS-320L of all settings and restoring back to the factory defaults, the answer is "no". After the firmware updates the DNS-320L will automatically reboot and should function normally thereafter.  Firmware updates should not impact current HDD configuration, stored data, or user settings.

If you are adhering to "best practices" and  want to avoid potential conflicts (as remote as they might be), then that performing a factory reset is sound advice. I have two DNS-343 a DNS-345, and several D-Link routers and have never experienced issues updating firmware while maintaining the legacy user configurations.

Also, if you were to perform a factory reset, I would think that it would be best to perform the procedure BEFORE performing the firmware upgrade, so you're working with a blank slate.

I just touched base with the router moderator. . . He recommends factory reset before + after for routers due to issues he's observed over the years.  I haven't experienced issues updating FW on the ShareCenter series without performing a factory reset, although it can't hurt to perform the factory reset before + after.

Bugs in v1.01b03:
- Auto fan speed don´t set properly, if stopped won´t wake up to Low or High, freezing the device in high temperature. Changed settings to Auto (low-high);
- Local Backup don´t work (file and folder). Launches error without msg;
- Sometimes 320L become "freezed" and power led blinks while managing disks (local backup, formatting, ...). Need wait a long period to power on again;
- P2P still not working like in v1.0 (Shipping version).

Any update so far I have upgraded my A2 device firmware to 1.01 (09/14/2012). The following problem still exist:-

- P2P 100% CPU utilization and freezing.
- upnp 100% CPU when connected to my smart TV.

Please let us know when the latest firmware will release to address the above problem. It is frustrating  >:( >:( >:(

yes, you can even enable the remote interface but you need to log in via telnet and modify /mnt/HD/HD_a2/.systemfile/P2P/.settings/settings.json  changing rpc-whitelist from "128.0.0.1", to "128.0.0.1","192.168.*.*", (or wathever's your wan)
original transmission web interface is missing so you cant just log to browser port 9091 but remote guis works.

an annoying little bug I've found with 1.02b5: I've bought a new 3tb drive, removed the older 500gb one and replaced it with the new one.
after my nas configured and formatted it as it should I tried to move files to the new disk and discovered that I had only read and execute permissions.
tried making new users with write permissions and everything, nothing I could do was able to change that, logging via SSH I discovered that /mnt/HD/HD_b2 had 0766 permissions instead of 0777, solved by chowning to 0777

So far after installing this firmware, the built-in torrent client has been downloading smoothly. CPU Utilization runs around 40% on average and webgui runs faster.

This is a beta firmware given to me earlier today by D-Link after I complained about the problem with the torrent client. Use at your own risk.

latest betas should be unified for all hardware revisions but keep in mind that they -ARE- beta versions.
you can find them on dlink's hungarian ftp server (at least 1.02b5, 1.02b7 I dont know where to find), google will find it easily.
in 1.02b5 upnp and p2p works a lot better, they have upgraded to latest release of minidlna  and transmission (transmission 2.73, upnp-ap server I think is minidlna but is masked so not sure).
1.02b7 shoud be even better but its not released to dlink ftp servers afaik, they sent it to some users to test.

Guys,

Anyone facing the same issue to use Smart TV stream the video files directly from DNS-320L with upnp enable. My Panasonic Smart TV can see the DNS-320L but when I enter to the storage is empty. Looks like the database generated by DNS-320L doesn't recognize by the Smart TV.

Any idea? or just wait for upcoming firmware  >:( :( :( :( >:(
