Title: Spindown of disk attached to DSL-2750U
Post by: coolinx on December 18, 2012, 07:37:09 AM
I have a USB harddisk attached to my DSL-2750U. I noticed that it never spins down. Also not when not used for several hours. I think this functionality is not implemented in the router.

Does anyone know of a way to get the disk to spin down? Maybe via the command line? Afterall from the inside it is just a router running linux...

Any spin down features on the drive itself?
This maybe due to the way they have USB implemented on the MODEM, I would phone contact DLink support and ask them if this can be changed or not.

Let us know what they say.

Hmm, I thought this forum was the right place for D-link support  ;)

For faster contact, phone is recommended. Not much support here in the forums for low level items like FW and feature operations support. Not sure if any actual DLink technician visit the DSL forums.

Keep us posted on what they say.

Contact D-link support by phone is a bit problematic for me as I live in Mozambique so I sent them a mail. Here is their response so far:

As the USB port was originally designed for USB flash drives and because it does not have any power saving functionality it does not have a spin down functionality.
I will how ever find out for you if there is a way of manually getting the disk to spin down.
