Title: dns 320 and Xbox 360
Post by: climbers_uk on December 23, 2012, 12:40:59 PM
Hi Guys,

1st post so don't shoot me!!

I have tried to do a search and couldn't find any answers (on the internet or in here!)

I have got a DNS 320, that I have been using with my little sumivision cyclone media player for ages no problem. But my wife has just got me an xbox 360 off father Christmas. Only problem being I cannot get the 2 to communicate. The xbox just will not find the 320 at all. I have updated what I could on the Xbox, the firmware on the DNS 320 is currently sitting at 2.03. I have UPnP enabled (it has been working fine on the sumivision.

Is there something I am missing here? Or can this just not be done???

Cheers and happy holidays!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I dont know how I managed it. But I managed to get the Xbox to see the DNS 320.
Now I have the issue of not being able to see all my files in the folder structure I have, for example HD Movies > Sci-Fi > Star Wars > A New Hope etc etc. But I can see all the films when I just click on ALL VIDEOS. Not too keen on having to search through for each film........... any thoughts?

First things first, the built in media player is crap in my opinion I have no time for it to be honest. Second the xbox  as far as playing content goes isnt great either. WHat I would suggest is installing fun plug, http://nas-tweaks.net/371/hdd-installation-of-the-fun_plug-0-7-on-nas-devices/ (http://nas-tweaks.net/371/hdd-installation-of-the-fun_plug-0-7-on-nas-devices/) Once installed install twonky, http://nas-tweaks.net/384/installation-of-twonky-server-7-on-nas-devices/ (http://nas-tweaks.net/384/installation-of-twonky-server-7-on-nas-devices/). Once done you will have a great little media server, you can see how you want your files displayed etc, I used by folder as its easiest to navigate in windows and works fine on the xbox and media player.Have fun the first time is very annoying and nerve wrecking so take your time

Would this reformat the hard drives at all? Dont want to lose my data if i dont have too. So if it does i will need to move my stuff elsewhere whilst doing that.

Instsalling FunPlug? No, it is just about installing additional Linux tools, not entire operating system. So, there is no formatting involved, only installing additional files.
