Title: pptp vpn passthrough issues
Post by: zuckuss on October 01, 2007, 09:10:27 PM
I use a pptp vpn connection and after a few minutes/megabytes of transfer the connection would still be available still sending data but nothing could connect to the internet through the vpn connection.
With vpn passthrough enabled I saw dropped GRE packets in the logs.
I was on firmware 1.05 but downgraded to 1.03 to get the ALG settings back.
The only way I've been able to get a solid vpn connection is to setup a virtual server for the GRE (47) protocol pointing to the machine I use for vpn and setting a QOS engine rule with priority 1 for GRE packets.
I went from a peak of 40kb/s and frequent vpn "freezes" to 300+kb/s using these settings.
Any idea why I need to force pptp off and add the QOS rules? (The router is basically default settings + encrypted wep wireless, it also makes having the ALG settings key for me to be able to use any future firmware).
