Hotspot mode assumes you have a password for the wireless network that you will be connecting to that the 505 will be serving access to.
Most public hotspots that I visit do not have a password but have a sign-on screen that requires you to type some info and acknowledge ToS and then you get access, presumably keyed to your MAC addr or IP.
What is the best way to make the 505 work and provide service for multiple clients in this situation?

exactly my question. sites that use a captive portal and TOS don't seem to be supported. I'm testing against two different TOS networks right now with the unit in hotspot mode, and I'm getting no dns resolution on any internet requests, and it's not passing through to the network and bringing up the captive portal page.

Seems that the TOS needs to be folfilled in some way with using the DIR-505. I would presume that some how the DIR-505 needs to be used maybe in a different mode so that the TOS is fofilled first then maybe swtich to hot spot mode.
I recommend phone contacting DLink support, level 2 or higher and inquire about this.

ok, have done a little more testing with this, against a captive portal enabled system on an Aruba AP-93.
The dir-505 seems to have some stability issues on the latest firmware, but technically does work as designed.
for public TOS hotspots, such as coffee chains or hotels that offer free w-fi via a captive portal page that uses TOS (Terms of service) ideally you want to use the Wi-Fi Hotspot option, simply to give you some level of protection on your own devices that you are connecting. It will actually pass through to the portal page and allow you to agree to the terms of service. It seemed to take a few restarts to "take" correctly however.

Awesome info. Thank you for sharing. I would presume that if you see some instability, it's possible that other WiFi routers near by could also effect or be effected by these routers and the limited channels available. Once most of the channels are used up, then some issues can be seen with stability and performance on 2.4Ghz Wifi. If you think this isn't the case, I would phone contact DLink support, level 2 or higher and inquire about this.
