I have been using DIR 615 at home for around one year.
Now I notice that after some time of continuous usage (say around 3 – 4 hours) the Wireless network is lost. Thereafter only reboot brings it back.
I checked for any latest firmware upgrade from admin page, but it says device already has the latest. Any help on troubleshooting this problem would be great.
Thanks.

Link>Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=41537.0)
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
Has a Factory Reset been performed?
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
Double NAT (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm)
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
Turn off ALL QoS (http://vonage.nmhoy.net/qos.html) or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
Set Time and Time Zone under Tools/Time.
Link>Wireless Installation Considerations (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48327.0)
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/) to find out. How many?
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Enable WMM Enable (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50738.0) Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Thanks FurryNutz for the detailed inputs. I shall try these & update soon.

I have done the router reset and set it up again with most of the possible options as suggested.
Hardware version E4 Firmware 5.10
Region Asia, ISP - Using Cable modem (Stand alone w/o router) and modem is shared with other users in common area i.e. I can not perform any actions on that modem
Devices connected - max 2 laptops wireless and sometimes mobile phone.
Desktop PC is wired mode and while the wireless was lost, the desktop continued to remain connected and on internet as well
Cordless phone, Yes Panasonic 2.4Ghz
Will have to wait and see now if it operates for long hours without losing the wireless network.
Thx.

If the Panasonic 2.4Ghz cordless phone is in use, this can and probably will cause some interferences with the 615 router.
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
Recommend modem and router set up is:
ISP Modem>DIR-615<>All wired and wireless connected devices to 615.
-
Unfortunately it' still disconnecting. I installed inSSIDer. It shows about 4 - 5 more SSIDs in the vicinity, all on 2.4 GHz channels. I even disconnected the chordless phone and used only the basic wired phone instrument last 2 - 3 days.

Looks like the firmware could be wrong. From Dlink support site. (http://www.dlink.com/us/en/support/product/dir-615-wireless-n-300-router?revision=us_reve)
5.10na
Shipping Firmware for Hardware Revision E3.
Added Language Pack option.
Note: Works for Hardware E3 only.
So if you have E4 you need 5.00na. Unless you bought this router in China. Which then I would suggest calling Dlink and see what you need, because I cant read the Chinese support site, even with google translate. :-)

Any status on this?
-
Hi, the router came with v5.10 firmware. Later I updated to v5.12. From within the admin interface it now reports this version to be the latest. The issue is now very rarely noticed. Say once a week or so and that's okay! It's now out of warranty and seems no longer supported in my region.

Some things to try...
Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48327.0) and Managing Signal Congestion (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53228.0) and Good Neighbour Policy (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=10634.0)
- Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
- What wireless modes are you using?
- 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?[/b]
- Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
- Try setting a manual Channel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_channel) to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
- What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Encryption_Standard), so you might want to try TPIK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_Key_Integrity_Protocol) only or Auto TPIK and AES.
- What wireless devices do you have connected?
- Any cordless house phones?
- Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/) to find out. How many?
- If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI (http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-features/30969-what-do-80211ns-optional-features-mean-for-you), WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
- Enable WMM Enable (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50738.0) Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
- Try setting Medium or Low power output settings and test again Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
-
Thanks FurryNutz. Now with F/W v5.12 it's very rarely noticed and no longer troubling me much.

Glad it's working better, enjoy. ;)
