Hello,
I've tried to upgrade My Dlink DSR-500N to the new firmware found on ftp://ftp.dlinkla.com/pub/drivers/DSR-500N/
The new firmware is DSR-500N_A1_FW1.06B53_WW (my actual is DSR-500N_A1_FW1.04B58_WW)
When I tried the procedure (Tools -> Firmware from USB), the new firmware appears correctly in the list but when I try to proceed by upload button, I always have the same error message which says "Firmware file is invalid or corrupted"
If it can help, the md5sum of the file is "a3d2c696cc5867a76bb491d89e45c24b"
Thanks for your help.

Link>Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=41537.0)
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
There maybe a intermediate version that you need to upgrade first, i.e. v1.04 > v1.05> then v1.06.
I highly recommend only upgrading to what is officially posted on DLinks web sites.
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8 or 9, set compatibility mode and test again.
Try a factory reset, then try to send the file via LAN cable, then if it goes the, do one more factory reset then configure the router.
It's possible the new FW file is corrupt and not useable.

Hello and thank you for your answer
Hardware version is A1
My actual firmware version is 1.04B58_WW
I'm using Firefox (18.0) and them things appear with opera (my PC is under Ubuntu so no IE lol) and use a USB stick that contains to firmware (so, no pb with broken link..)
An intermediate firmware version is listed on release note of this new 1.06B53 (see pdf in the rar file), it is named 1.06B43 but i don"t where to find it ???
In this same pdf file, this new firmware 1.06B53_WW is listed to be compatible with A1 HW version
Before a factory reset (I already have a "bricked" DSR-500N once and my router is in use on my network without another redundant hardware...) I would prefer to know if someone already succeed
The ftp site seems a official dlink site no ? i also tried ftp.dlink.fr (I'm from Paris, France) and the intermediate B43 is available here so I will try this way and be back to tell if this is successful...
on website only

Any chance you can use a Windows based PC to send the firmware file?
-
Why a windows ? is it more secure than USB ?
-
Probably more stable to use LAN vs USB.
There could be something wrong with the file as well.
I recommend that you phone contact DLink support and ask about this.
-
grrrreeeu !!!!
I try using LAN update (the firmware was put on my NAS), the process begins normaly but stop during the upload process and now my DSR-500N is break :-(
Open DHCP lease are still active (I can telnet it but just after login/pass it tells "-sh: /pfrm2.0/bin/cli: not found" and close the connection)
I'm angry
EVERY times I've tried an upgrade (to benefit from corrections about bugs i encountered on this router), my DSR-500N had been broken. This sounds amazing. My next network materiel may not be a Dlink product...

Please phone contact your regional local DLink support office regarding this.
Something has happened to the router and needs to be fixed.
Also while doing any FW updates, it's best to disable any and ALL 3rd party security programs like Anti-Virus and Firewalls as these can interfere with the process.
I highly recommend using a Windows or Mac based PC for doing FW updates and using IE browser in Windows and Safari for Mac OSX. Not really sure how Linux based PC would work. I presume that using FF in Linux should be ok. To be safe though, Windows or Mac is best.
Let us now what they say.
Good Luck.

I will try a recovery on boot-U first on monday (it is week-end time now !) and let you know.

I will
Can you give the phone number of support from France (preferably as my oral english is not fluent) or for Europe.
Thank you.

I found the latest working firmware here.... I had the same problem with the firmware listed above.

Just looked thru my notes on flashing firmware to my DSR-500N.
The attempts I have made using a flashdrive have failed. While this
method works on most SOHO routers, I think the DSR-500N refuses to
accept firmware from a USB/flashdrive - perhaps this is a built in
security measure.
I have flashed my DSR-500N six different times in all three directions
and it works great (upgrade, downgrade and sideways just to be sure).
The firmware has always been copied to the HDD of a PC machine that is
hardwired to one of the ports.
BTW, the reset procedure also works on my DSR-500N. The probability
that one of these is truly bricked is *extremely* low.
