Title: Gallery app needs a admin login to use it?
Post by: bigdave240 on February 02, 2013, 09:56:08 AM
Just got the dns-325 and upgraded it to the 1.03 firmware,  downloaded the latest app file and put photo gallery 2.3 on it.  When i launch the app it goes to the page that would show an album but i havent created any yet and there doesn't seem to be a way to do that.  I watched the dlinktv viddo for it and see options on the left side but they dont appear on mine.  I am thinking i need to log in but its asking for user/password and i dont have them? Searched this forum a lot but didnt find an answer to this.  Thanks

Spent about 4 hours on the phone with customer support and they cant figure it out either.  Escalated to the next level and waiting for a call.  Might have to return it.

Post the issue on the DNS-325 wishlist sticky and I'll add it to the list...

I have tried to get an update to this issue but dlink is not being responsive at all. I waited on the phone twice for over 10 minutes only to have their system hang up on me. might be time to return this crap to amazon and let them deal with dlink. not happy at all with the customer service.

I am debating on whether or not to return this and buy something else.  Would appreciate opinions.  Does dlink fix stuff like this in a timely manor? Is there another way to install an app similar to it? I only have a week or so left to return it to amazon.  Is everyone having the same problem or just me? Thanks for your opinion

Here are instructions for the Photo Center app that were included in the DNS-345 manual:

Photo Center

The Photo Center add-on sets up your ShareCenter® to share your photos over the web using Gallery 2 software. It provides a convenient interface from which you can create albums of photos with descriptions. The albums are then accessible over the web using HTTP so that your family and friends can then view your ShareCenter® stored photos from any internet connection.

LaunchInterface:

Click this button to launch the Photo Center (Gallery 2) Web UI where you can then manage photo galleries through a web interface. Web URL: The Launch button will automatically launch the Web UI in fhe format of the ShareCenter® IPv4 address slash Gallery 2 for example: http://192.168.1.1/gallery2/ Where 192.168.1.1 is the ShareCenter’s network IP address setting. In the Photo Center Web UI use the user name: admin password: “the ShareCenter’s admin password”

Adding Gallery Users:

You can add users through the account management settings of your ShareCenter. The same users will be reflected in the Gallery 2 administrative settings and can then be given access to the photos and albums. If you do not see the user in the user list of the Gallery admin settings then disable the Photo Center add-on and re-enable it.

Gallery 2 Help:

You can find more help regarding the Gallery 2 application at: http://gallery.menalto.com/about

thanks for that but it was tried by me and also by the help desk via their system and also by remote desktop on my system. there just doesn't seem to be a way to get any of the config stuff to show up on the left side of the screen. nothing is there.

I've installed the Photo Center app on my DNS-345 and see what you are talking about.  Valid ShareCenter account holders can log into the Photo Center app, and an empty album appears with no configuration/setting options to do anything further.

I will escalate this issue to D-Link and see what I can find out.

From what I see there is no mechanism for users to configure, manage, or have any interaction with the Photo Center app from neither the ShareCenter nor the Gallery 2 webpage.

Yup.  Thats exactly what i see as well.  Cant config what you cant get to.  Hope they figure it out soon.  Really want this to work.

I also noticed that the "Launch" page off the ShareCenter indicates the install path for the Photo Center configuration and that path doesn't appear on Volume_1 unless it's hidden.

Yeah.  When the help desk tech was on my pc/remote desktop he noticed that as well.  Could be hidden though.  We tried to create the directory shown in the path and it won't let you do it.

The DNS-325 uses the linux file system, so "show hidden files/folders" under Windows won't necessarily work with the DNS-325 directory structure.

I was trying to find out if you could telnet or ssh into it as root so you could really see what was there but havent had time to work on it in the last couple of days.

I am very frustrated with this box. I tried to call the 877 number today for an update but as in the past there is no one to talk to. you hit all the prompts then it tells you there will be a delay of 10 minutes. you wait and wait and eventually the music stops and the phone disconnects. i tried talking to someone else using a different prompt and they insist there is nothing wrong with the phone system and transfer you to the dept and of course it just disconnnects. I AM DONE! I am sending this thing back. The software it comes with will not work correctly on my win8 laptop so I had to purchase additional software in order to make it work so i am out that cost. I also bought 2 WD red 2tb drives which will work in whatever brand i buy next. I hope you all have some luck at some point but I am done. should have learned my lesson with the boxeebox. no more dlink for me! I have been around this stuff for a long time ( i am over 60) so i know that no one cares that I am upset but I will do what i can to tell the world about my poor customer experience with dlink. the only bright spot has been the helpfulness of the forum admin so thanks for that much.

I appreciate your frustration, especially when you purchased the DNS-325 for a specific must-have feature, and also understand that you have to move on. Nonetheless, I'm still plugging away to get some form of resolution to this app issue.

The developers are working on it.  I can now confirm that.  They contacted me last week with a beta release but it didnt work and they said they would call me back.  I didnt send mine back based on this.  I hope to hear from them this coming week and will report as soon as i do.

Again, this issue isn't isolated to the DNS-325, but also presents itself on the DNS-345.  :-\

Gents:
You are not alone, I just bought a DNS-325, updated firmware and the Photo Center will not work. Interesting if you go to the website for Gallery, you find they are currently on version 3.05. The version I received with my unit was 2.0.
I too am waiting for a call back from tech support, will keep you posted..

Do you have any news from the technical support?

1 month after buy this nas, I can't share photos... Is it possible to have a refund and to buy a better nas?

Best regards,
Luc

Hi
I have the same problem with my DNS 325 with NAS Firmware Version 1.03 and Photo Center 2.01
When I launch Photo Center I get the web page /gallery2/main.php. I can connect with the admin account but there no icon on top right of the page (as shown on documentation)
I read somewhere I can delete Volume_1/Nas_Prog/gallery2 and re-install the app, but I don't know how to see Volume_1/Nas_Prog

This app has a known bug impacting the DNS-325 and DNS-345. From my understanding D-Link is working on a fix which has yet to be publicly released.

I was informed that a public beta of a fixed version of the PhotoCenter app will be released shortly.  Hang in there a little longer . . .  ;)

D-Link USA published v2.02b of the DNS-325 PhotoCenter App here: DNS-325 - PhotoCenter App version 2.02 beta (ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Multimedia/dns325/Beta/Apps/dns325_photo_center_202_beta.zip)

This latest version corrects the usability issues identified in the prior version.

I installed the DNS-345 version of this fix last night (on my DNS-345, of course) without issue. The application installed over my current PhotoCenter version and worked out-of-the-box without issue.  ;)

I installed this update today and I finally found the missing menu entries.
I added some photos and it worked.  :)

But later I tried to add photos from my canon EOS 550D. They are a lot bigger in size and....
they don't load. The uploader just quits without giving a message or a preview picture. :(

Does anyone else have that problem? Or a solution? ???

i had some similar issues but it worked fine if i put the files on my laptop first then loaded it from there.
