I a looking to transfer data from one NAS to another NAS
I have in the region of 6TB to transfer, what would be the quickest way to do this

I'll assume the receiving NAS will be the DNS 320? What's the other NAS device? It all depends on the two devices and what they can do in terms of data transfer and how tech savvie you are personally. There's also a reliance on your setup i.e. gig lan or wireless or usb etc? are you wanting a backup of the data or are you replacing one NAS with another? Simplest method would be use a pc and map drives to both then copy and paste from one to the other. Will take forever for 6gb but is the easiest. Quickest would be NAS- NAS transfer using rsync assuming gig lan but you haven't described your setup and what you are wanting to achieve so not sure if doable. If you could post a bit more info we could probably work out whats best.

With the lack of detail, I'm going to assume that you are seeking to transfer data between two DNS-320s and both HDDs are formatted as standard volumes (6TB = 3TB HDD + 3TB HDD). DNS-320 formatted HDDs are swappable between units. Remove one of the HDDs from the original DNS-320, add a new HDD in the empty slot and copy the data from HDD1 to HDD2 internally to the DNS-320 (no external data transfer required). Repeat the process for the second HDD.
If you want to cut the reduce time by 50%, move the second HDD (containing data) to the second DNS-320 and copy the second HDD at the same time that you are copying the first HDD using the other DNS-320.

I have data currently stored in an DNS 343 with 2TB Drives
I am waiting for my Gigabyte Network Card to come through which will be Friday i think.
I was just thinking of removing the drive and mounting into my PC and connecting the DNS320 to my PC and doing it that way.

Given the additional information, my solution will not work. The DNS-343 and DNS-320 format HDDs with different filesystems that are not cross-compatible.

How are the disks configured in the 343? You say they are 2gb and you have 6gb of data so that suggests min of 3 disks but the 343 is capable of taking 4 so you could have 4 disks in Raid 5 if thats the case then the data is stored across disks and the minute you pull one it will go into recovery. Pull 2 and you lose the lot unless you are fortunate and the 343 sorts itself out once disks put back. If you are using jbod then you should be able to take each disk out and install in your desktop but again lack of info on operating system means im not sure what to use to mount the disk. if you are using linux it should work, windows and mac require additional software.
me personally depending on whats on the 343 I would take my time anyway and move the data piece by piece to make sure it's all transferred ok and no corruption etc. Might take some time but for family photo's etc worth the hassle.

I have 4 x 2TB in the DNS 343 and had them running as singles so pulling them and mounting them on PC is not a issue as i have done this already.
I have my gigabyte in my PC too now

I have my DNS-320 connected to my Gigabyte port at the back of PC and have mounted drive from DND-343 on my Windows PC via 3rd Party program and and transferring data at a speed of 16MB/sec
Is this speed good or can i achieve better
Note - i have made no adjustments to anything and moving over min 20GB per file.

Your throughput sounds about right. I see similar results transferring DNS-343#1 > PC > DNS-343#2

Disable everything on the 320 and you might see an improvement. Make sure you have latest firmware as well as some of the older ones suffered file corruption (search forum)
