Hello.
Yesterday I bought a D-Link DIR 835 H/W Rev A1, F/W Ver 1.02
I found that I couldn't establish a link via Ethernet. It didn't even give me a link light, nor did Windows detect that the LAN cable was connected. I plugged the PC into an older D-Link router using the same cable and got a link, no worries... So it had to be the DIR 835.
Assuming that the unit was faulty, I took it back to the store, and they happily gave me another. Took it home, same problem! What are the chances of two faulty units?
So, before I go back to the store, I need to know if I'm doing something wrong, because that's probably what the store is going to think if I go back again! :)
Thanks in advance,
Stuart

Make sure your network settings on the PC are cleared and set for Auto Obtain IP addressing.
Swap out for a different cable.
Is there a different PC you can test with as well?

Yes. I have tested both DIR-835 routers on two computers and have tried different cables. Both computers can establish a link with the DI-624 I have.
The computer is not detecting a physical connection with the DIR-835. It isn't even getting to the stage where TCP settings could be a problem, although I have checked them and they're fine.

Can you access the routers web page at all?
Ensure you disable any 3rd party security programs like firewalls on the PC.
Might take to a different location maybe just to be sure...Ya, they should be working. Should not be bad. Try a factory reset?

Yup, done all that already. I can access the web page through wireless, I just can't get the lan ports to do anything.
To be honest, if I hadn't just swapped this router for a new one at the store yesterday, I would be thinking that it's faulty.
Thanks,
Stuart

Sorted it.
Must be a compatibility issue with Windows 7 and or my Hardware and the firmware of the DIR-835.
Borrowed a computer running XP and was able to connect with that. Flashed DIR-835 with OpenWRT - it now connects to my Windows 7 machine.
Thanks,
Stuart

Ok man, glad other FW worked for it.
Wonder if it's the NIC on the windows 7 PC. Might try a different NIC later on.
When I had the 835 my 7x64 box worked great on the OEM FW.
Enjoy.

Thanks.
If it's usefull to anyone here are the details of the incompatible hardware;
The NIC is a JMicron PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet card (integrated). Driver version 6.0.17.1... I don't know how to find the firmware revision of NIC in Windows. OS is 7/64. Board is an ASUS K52JC rev A1. (laptop)
Problem persisted even after upgrading the DIR-835 to OEM Ver 1.04 firmware, however problem was not present with non OEM firmware. Hope this info helps.
Thanks again,
Stuart
