Title: DIR-505 v1.06: Back into Red-LED Hibernation in Router Mode. Hotspot Ok.
Post by: DaveUdon on February 17, 2013, 06:29:46 AM
My DIR-505 v1.06 has gone back into Red-LED hibernation for another few days in Router mode. Nothing will wake it up. It's got a mind of its own. Sigh...

At least the Hotspot mode is operating so far without problems.

This happened a few days ago, then Router mode suddenly came back to life.

Anyone else having this problem?

EDIT 19 FEB 2013

After encountering more resets in Router mode v1.06 and esp. after playing with Shareport, I flashed back to the last major update: FW 1.04 which I hadn't tried yet.

Router mode is now much more stable (18 hours up-time with 2 devices connected).

I'm staying away from Shareport in favor of FTP between my iPad and Galaxy Note 2 -- both connected via the 505 private network.

This happen while using the previous version of FW?

I bought the 505 with v1.03 and noticed some restarts. As a newbie with this, I expected perfection. I also read about such problems here with earlier FW's. So I upgraded right away to the latest 1.06

I know, you would like to compare with earlier v1.05, etc., thank you.

The Plan:

It just came back up in Router mode after being on and connected to 2 devices all night in Hotspot mode.
So, I will REFLASH in Router mode (with cable) for FW 1.06 and report back.
Why? Because the last time I flashed to 1.06, the LED began blinking Red (scaring me) after 1) the countdown to 0-sec's, 2) my waiting for another minute, and 3) a pin-reset.

Let's be intuitive and say that perhaps the 1.06 didn't flash completely.

Step-2: flash for FW 1.05 and work backwards...

I'm really pleased with Hotspot. Weak source signals are amplified well, and the output reaches into all corners of our 2-story house with totally cement walls and floors.

Title: Successful Re-flash (so far) of FW 1.06...

Thanks for your reply. Before it arrived, I started a re-flash using 1.06 and walked away for 5 min's.
When I got back, the LED was Green, and dlink-xxxx was waiting for a connect.

Feeling lucky at that point, I did NOT do a factory reset, and proceeded to join the default network.
No internet access, none was expected.

dlinkrouter/ gave the Web Menu for Router, and for the first time on a whim I tried the pre-wizard in Setup | Internet Settings | Internet Connection Setup Wizard. It was the same one offered in the Hotspot mode.

I set up a new private network, saved, and after the reboot + a few min's I joined the new private network and had internet access.

Wow, mebbe I had better start trusting these pre-wizards more!

Note: the last 2 steps starting at dlinkrouter/ could have been done with QRS Mobile, but I always choose the less convenient path to learn more.

After 3 hours now, still with no factory reset since the flash began, and with 3 devices (including this one) still connected with no restarts, I think I see light at the end of the tunnel...

I'll try futzing around with the Shareport on a USB stick later on after a few more hours of solid uptime.

Will report back...
