I just purchased a DNS-323 and was wondering about firmware upgrades. Does one need to upgrade the next released firmware version from what is already installed (e.g. if NAS has v1.01, then install v1.02, then v1.03, then v1.044...) or do you install the latest firmware version regardless the starting firmware (e.g. if NAS has v1.01 then install v1.09)?

It is my understanding that each release is complete and is not dependent on any prior release. If you are using 2 TB disks, I would go to FW 1.10 to format the disks and then install 1.09.

I have confirmed that v1.10 is currently installed (I have hardware version B), and I have read that v1.09 is more stable.
I am curious the difference between the releases. Are there release notes (assuming they mean anything to a neophyte like me) on the differences or does anyone know off the top of their heads?
Also, as I am transferring data (> 2 TB) from my wireless PC to the NAS, is there a quicker way to accomplish this? I started transferring some of my videos and the transfer rate was 1 Mbyte(or Mbites??)/sec. I have the U-verse router (2Wire I believe), but suspect the wireless in the PC may be the rate limiting step. Sorry for the lack of specifics as I am new to NAS technology other than the info I read from the forum.

A wired network should yield a throughput somewhere in the range of 9-11 MB/s. The low throughput you're experiencing (1 MB/s) is typical for a wireless connection (depending of course on the wireless protocol and other variables).

Thanks JavaLawyer. I suspected that was the cause. I connected the PC via cat 5 and now my transfer appears to average 9 MB/sec.
