Title: Can't access Shares
Post by: Niteman9 on March 10, 2013, 08:34:30 PM
I had one of the hard drives in my unit die. I copied everything from the DNS-323 to a computer just in case. I turned the unit off and pulled the bad drive out. I the powered it back up to check if I could still access the data, which I could. I then  powered it down again installed a new drive and powered up. Logged into the web interface and started a rebuild of the RAID 1. Still could access data. A few days later I check and I can no longer access any data and the NAS does not show up in the network list in Windows 7 and all of my mapped drives are disconnected. I can still access it via the web interface and it shows the rebuild was successful. Any ideas. Thanks.

The fact you can still access the NAS via the web interface points to a possible problem with your windows network setup.

Can you see Volume_1 if you open windows explorer, network, DLINK-xxxxxx (where xxxxxx is some hex number)?  If so you then need to remap your drives.

If you don't see Volume_1 then you should check that the NAS and your PC are using the same workgroup (not workgroup on the NAS and homegroup on the PC)

Sorry I can't be more helpful but I only see windows when friends and the odd client ask for help.

Thanks for the replay but nothing in the windows networking setup changed and I have two desktops and nether can access the data. The dlink does not show up in the network list but does show up in the devices area which launches the web GUI. Everything is set to the same workgroup.

It is possible that the IP address changed on the NAS, depending of course on how you had it configured. This would explain why a remap is required.

i had the same problem two times in the past, login to the nas and go to "Setup" --> "Device" and rename "DNS-323" to something else, save settings and then rename back to "DNS-323" save settings again and reboot the nas.

worked for me :)
