Title: DNS 325 - Can Standard mode accept new drive without formatting?
Post by: mochapenguin on March 21, 2013, 10:29:11 AM
Hi,

Wondering if anyone knows about DNS-325's behaviour in standard mode (each drive as independent volume). Does it format the drives when these are inserted before storing data? I know DNS-325 formats the drive for setting them up in RAID mode, but is this true for Standard mode too?

DNS - 325 is the choice I have narrowed down for purchase and at this point don't need RAID functionality (could use it in future) but would like the NAS to be more of a network attached SATA drive caddy cum low powered Linux box. I have drives formatted in ext3 with data on them. I was wondering if DNS-325 would give me the ability to plug the drives in standard mode without having to reformat.

Thanks in advance

Yes, it will partition and format newly added drive.
