Title: New poll idea
Post by: Popovice on April 06, 2013, 11:08:54 PM
Maybe JavaLawyer or somebody else could set up a poll regarding the distance of IP camera from a person's home. Mine is about 1400km, so it would be nice if the camera would stay up and running without constant manual intervention ;D To ensure this I have actually used an "egg-timer" to power cycle the camera once in a day (at night time) and at least for a week the camera has been running without problems.

That's a loaded question and difficult to objectively measure since there are many environmental factors that will impact maximum achievable distance. Common variables include the number of walls between the router and camera; materials comprising the walls (brick, concrete, steal, glass, etc); network traffic (rural vs. urban); connectivity (Wireless N, G, etc.); router brand/model and antennae.

Actually I meant the camera physical distance from the place of observation and not the wireless range (1400km would be quite extensive from this perspective  8)). As I said, my camera is at a holiday house quite far away and even in a different country than where I live.

I'll simplify a bit and ask how many people primarily monitor their cameras locally (same town/region), domestically (elsewhere in the same country) or internationally.  :D
