Title: Just got my DIR-655. Which Firmware should i update to?
Post by: ttoomm on May 06, 2009, 12:37:02 AM
hey guys,
just got my dir-655.
its come with firmware 1.02

my question to everyone here is:
which fw version should i upgrade to?
The main features that i want to be incl. in the new fw is the use of the USB in the back to share files between computers connected to the network. I mean the connection of mainly a 1TB WD Harddrive.
I read that the latest north american fw (1.31) has a problem with this.
Also i want the new FW to be really stable.
I have a voip service from a company here and am using a Dlink DG-102S Voip adapter.
I want the voip adapter to work well with teh router.

oh and... I am in Canada.
SO thanks in advance guys.

Make sure that you read the complete notes for which ever FW you install.  D-Link has recently started to post newer FW that you will not be able to update to an older version.

I dont know what f/w gave best voip performance, but to get the USB to work the way you want it to, i would upgrade to 1.22b05. If your happy with that, then go ahead and upgrade to 1.31. But in upgrading to get the USB feature, you are going to have to sacrifice (if your current f/w has it) WDS, LAN routing, and 3G USB features, oh, and the inability to downgrade if you upgrade to 1.31.

1.31 Is the most stable feature imo, been up for almost a week now and not 1 crash or reboot. I also seem to get much better pings in gaming, while downloading too.

dont really care for WDS or LAN routing (dunno what this really is). 3g USB is not even going to be used by me.
SO
I am guessing 1.22b05 is the fw to go with?
thx

Hey
how abt the USB shareport feature?
The only main thing i am looking to be enabled on the router is the USB shareport and good wireless range.

Another question:
Should i connect the modem, voip adapter and router this way:
MODEM >>> ROUTER >>> VOIP ADAPTER >>> PC
or
MODEM >>> VOIP ADAPTER >>> ROUTER >>> PC

I guess if the voip adapter comes after the modem, then if the router restarts, I will still have my phone working.

Anyone have any experience with this?
thx
