Ok, in my network I have a W8 Laptop, a MacBook Pro, and a raspberry-Pi plus some mobiles (iOS and Android). When i plug a regular usb stick in the Usb port of the router i can see it and acces the files from all the devices with no problem. but when I try with an external HD it doesnt work, I have 2 Western Digital HD's, i formatted them in different types but there is no change. the shareport utility doesnt recognize either something connected in the router.
I was really expecting to have this working when i bought this router. what could be the problem?

What is the drive size of the HDDs?

600GB and 1TB

These drives have external power supplies as well? They should be working.
I presume that when directly connected to a PC they are seen and working?
FAT32 or NTFS Windows Native formatting should be used and should work.

Both get the energy from the usb port but I can see from the leds and the vibration that they are on. when i connect them to the computers they work fine, I had to format them in FAT32 (MAC and PC compatibility) however i tested using NTFS, but i can not see them, either in the windows explorer, or in the shareport utility.

I recommend getting external DC power to the drives if they support this. There are some drives that need the extra power that the USB port can not provide enough. This could be a reason why they are not working with the router.

Ok, i will try with a powered hub when I get one. i will come back with the result.
Thank you for your replies!

Hope it works, keep us posted.

I have spent some time and money finding the proper wires to give external power to the HD. Finaly I set up the connections, but even with the HD powered, the HD is not seen when connected to the USB port of my router.

Ok, I'm going to recommend that you phone contact D-Link support. Ask for level 2 or higher support.
This maybe a compatibility issue between the router and USB HDD.
Let us know what they say.
