Title: dir-505l as wireless client
Post by: gr8aussie on May 28, 2013, 03:09:06 PM
Anybody know the best way to put one of these in a client mode?  I simply want it to connect to my wifi and then be able to use ethernet to plug into a non-wireless device....I did this in hotspot mode, and it seems to work ok, but I am annoyed at the fact that the disable ssid option does not work, so I am still re-broadcasting my wifi when I would really rather not.  That is my goal, no 2nd, or "repeated", "extended", whatever network.  Any ideas?
Thanks.

Do you have the 505 or the 505L? They are not quite the same product (and the 505L has its own forum section.) You could configure hotspot mode to use its own SSID and encryption key, and just ignore that. I did see a report that someone used a 505 to wireless-enable a wired Ethernet printer, so it must be possible....  Ah, found it.  See http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=52766.0
