Hi
Recently my dir-655 got fried by thunder and so i invested in a dir-845l. For some unknown reason i can't get the shareport printer to work. It shows up and is properly identified in shareport but when i'm trying to connect it just says "Connection to Canon MP 600 failed", no other info. I've tried reinstalling printer drivers and shareport, upgraded fw, upgraded shareport, tried on three different computers Win8, Win7 32 and win7 64.
My old dir-655 worked flawlessly with this setup (printer & computers) so i was quite convinced this one should work as well.
Printer: Canon MP600
Router: DIR-845l
Computers: HP 8560w Windows 8, HP 8530w & Dell vostro.
I'm running out of ideas so any help would be very much appreciated.

- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
- What region are you located?
- Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
- Has a Factory Reset been performed?
- Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates?
- What version of SP is currently loaded?
Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
- Turn off ALL QoS (http://vonage.nmhoy.net/qos.html) or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options, Advanced/QoS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quality_of_service) or Gamefuel.
- Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
- Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
- Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53222.0)
- Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
- Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
- If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
- Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
- Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules. Enable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming for routers that have a Media Server option. Disable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming if IPv6 or Media Server is not being used.
- Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
- WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
- Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48695.0) feature. Tools/Time.
3rd Party Security Software Configurations
- Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Ensure the printer installs directly to one of the PCs and prints correctly there.

Thank you for your prompt reply, it's much appreciated. First the additional information.
Router: DIR-845L
HW Ver: A1
FW Ver: Shipped with 1.0 when printing didn't work upgraded to current version 1.01
Shareport ver: Started with the shipped ver. 4.11 and later 4.20 (current)
Mainly using wireless but have tried wired with the same result.
I've tried the printer connected directly to the computers and that works fine.
Just now i went through the "things to try" list you sent and rebooted the router after the changes but it still wont allow me to connect to the printer. Very frustrating, FYI if i install a SD card in the printer shareport recognizes it as a disk which i can read but i still get connect failed for the printer. As mentioned, in shareport the printer status is available and correctly identified.
I have not done any factory resets yet as this is a brand new router, installed last Thursday, upgraded fw on Saturday. Should i try a reset anyway?
Anything else i could try?

I would try one factory reset after you do a Save Configuration to File. See if the factory reset does anything. I'm not sure it will. If your exhibiting the same issue on different PCs with the latest SP SW, and the printer works when directly connected to a PC using it's own drivers, I would presume there could be a compatibility issue with the printer.
One thing you can do, do a factory reset with the printer connected to the USB port. If SP doesn't see it. Power OFF the router then back ON with out the USB connected. Let the router come to ready. Then plug in the USB cable. After you do this, look a the routers logs, you should see some USB connection entries here. If you don't then I presume that this needs D-Link support, level 3 or higher. I have seen some issues with various printers not working with SP on the USB. If you phone contact them, give the details and what you have done already. I hope there might be a solution.
If there isn't a solution to the SP and USB for the printer, as a suggested alternative in using the USB and Shareport, get you a USB to LAN print server device. This will take the USB and make a connection to an LAN IP address for any PC or device to connect to the printer and use. D-Link has a couple of print server devices out there that should work. If you get on the phone, ask them as well about this as an alternative and what product they would recommend.
Keep us posted on how it goes.

Finally this issue has been solved. I've been in contact with D-link support and tried different shareport and firmware versions. Now with the latest beta FW together with shareport 4.1.1 the printer works fine, both from the Windows 8 and windows 7 computers.
The fw i received from support is: DIR845LA1_FW102b06_beta.
