Try the Shareport apps to see if they work?

I tried using shareport plus but it can't detect the dir-505 "not supported"

I have played movies from the 505 - I use a DLNA-capable player. The 505 doesn't share storage using CIFS/SMB.
I have not heard of "Shareport Plus" - what is that? D-Link provides a "Shareport" app for iOS and Android, but you can use Goodplayer or similar instead. VLC on a PC or Mac will do it too.
