Title: Itunes server does not share playlists?
Post by: rknopf on May 13, 2009, 05:47:32 PM
One limitation I have run into is that the itunes server does not seem to publish/share playlists.  I copy my itunes library from my laptop to the DNS-321 using XP's briefcase function (the DNS is the master and the briefcase is on my XP laptop) and it is an exact copy of what I have on my laptop.  The .itl file which is supposed to have all the playlists is in fact there on the DNS but no device that uses the server sees any of them - not itunes running on my laptop, not my Roku Soundbridge.

I've seen several questions about the playlists issue on this forum, but never an answer.  Anyone from DLink on here - is this a known issue?  Is there something I need to do to get this working?

FYI on the Roku board they seem to think this is a known limitation of the DNS 321/323 iTunes server and offer at least one workaround - copy music files into playlist directories and set the itunes server to that folder.  Sounds like a hassle but doable.  If I had a long playlist I wanted to create for a party or something I might.  Or I might just hook up my laptop to my receiver's USB DAC and forget the iTunes server altogether.
