Hi all,
I recently purchased a DNS-321 to replace my Windows Home Server because I wanted to lower my electricity usage but I have found a few issues/concerns which are showstoppers...
First let me explain my hardware setup.
2 x 1TB SATA drives
DNS321 with firmware 1.01 (also tried 1.03)
XBOX 360 (latest firmware)
100M wired LAN setup
AVI files
Not using root share - using video folder under root
- I have found the performance of the DNS-321 when streaming to my XBox to be somewhat slower than the WHS when browsing files - once the film has started it is fine though
- When I create a folder (short name) under videos - sometimes it shows up - sometimes it does not - sometimes the actual files do not show up. I have done the manual refresh
- Is there anyway to add files/folders and for the DLink to automatically refresh? Seems strange to have to manually refresh everytime I add a file
I am also wondering why there are so many beta versions of the firmware - but there is only 1.01 which is officially supported.
Any responses would be appreciated.

Any Dlink staff able to respond?

When you create a folder or change the folder the UPnP AV media server is looking at you will want to refresh the server. If you are simply adding files or adding a folder with media files you do not need to refresh the server the inotify Linux kernel subsystem will index the files in real time.
Be careful to not use long folder names or special characters such as "&" or the Xbox360 will show the folder as empty.
