Hi, I would be really grateful if anyone could help, I seem to be having problems with my wireless that has started happening over the last couple of weeks.
I'm using a DIR-826L hardware v A1, firmware 1.04
When I try and download any file over about 5MB in size from any site it gets to a certain point and the download slows and then stops completely. If I restart the download, it will get to a different point (sometimes less than previously, sometimes more) and stop again. This is with any browser (have tried FF, Chrome, IE9, Safari). When using FF, if I close the browser then open it again, the DL will continue from where it left off and then stop again. By doing this a few times I can get the DL finished.
When streaming, I have similar issues, with video or audio files reaching a certain point of buffering, then stopping completely. If I refresh, it will get to a different point but still stops.
When I have a wired connection to the router, I can download and stream without issue.
I have run a speed test and get 10 to 11 Mbps DL speeds wirelessly. Signal of around -25 dBm.
I have tried starting in safe mode with no AV running, no joy. I have also used Malwarebytes and CCleaner to clean up my computer but this has had no effect.
I was running firmware v 1.02 and had the same probs.
Sorry for the long post, any help would be greatly appreciated, cannot find a solution anywhere

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
- What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
- What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
- What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
-
DSL service with BT, D-Link 320b Modem.
Sorry for my ignorance, but I dont really understand "What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?". Is that the quoted speed from my ISP? or the speed I get with a wired connection to router?
thanks for reply

I use www.speedtest.net to compare my wireless to wired speed. I have a laptop with wireless to run a test. Then I take it down to the router, plug it in and run the test again.
After noting stability problems (hangs, drops and buffer fills) when using wireless streaming and noting a very significant difference between wired speed (~27 - 30 Mbps) vs wireless speed (< 3 Mbps) with the exact same (laptop) computer, I did the Google/Bing/Dogpile thing to see what others might have to say about such a phenomenon. Of course most seemed to blame their ISP for the slow speed, but that of course does NOT make any sense. In my case it was interference from 9 - 11 other 2.4 radios. One computer just had a weak signal, either distance or dead spot? To late, (I'd already got an 826) our moderator (FN) sent me some info that could or might combat interference. But, I'd rather be the only dude on 5.
Finding a scanner to run on my various computers was a BIG help in determining what was going on. Literature notes there can be "dead spots" which can be very annoying if it happens to be just where your desktop has to be. Using a diagnostic scanner can tell you a lot about what is going on. iMac Lion and Mountain Lion provide one. For my laptop (Windows) I found a widget at the Microsoft widget site. (Less likely, but not guaranteed, to NOT to contain malware.) Since I only run Linux virtual, I've not bothered to look for one, but I'm sure many exist. Haven't a clue for iOS or Android.
If your the curious type I say go for it if you've got the time.

I will definitely try that scanner when I get a bit more time. I just used speedtest again actually and the results surprised me a bit.
I had pretty much exactly the same speed when I was using wireless, wired from laptop to router and then wired direct to modem.
DL approx 7.5 - 8 Mbps UL 0.5 - 0.6 Mbps
I tried a few different speed checkers as well and they were all pretty much the same. I do have good wireless signal strength though, in another test I did this was -25 dBm, which I think is quite strong? It doesn't really seem like a speed issue tho because the DL just stop completely, rather than being very slow. They start with good DL speeds of 1 - 1.5 Mb/s but suddenly reduce to 0.
I've just tried watching something on iPlayer and it works fine wired but just stops with wireless still. The issue I'm having in trying to understand this is that until recently I was able to DL and stream without any probs, and nothing has knowingly been changed.

Just FYI, you may not see the exact same speeds on wireless as you do on wired connections when testing on speedtest.net. Many variables can cause inaccurate results.
I usually test with a PC or File server connected Gb LAN wired to the router for best results to check WiFi speed rates.
-
Yeah I'm sure the speed testers aren't that accurate but do you think this particular issue sounds like its speed related? I'm just unsure because the DL's and streams just stop completely rather than slow, I have until recently not had any problems and although these speed tests may not be accurate, they are coming up with similar figures now as to what they were prior to any probs.

Is the DSL modem bridged and is the 826L handling the PPPoE connection?
I ran my 826L recently and found the only problem with it is when v1.03 FW is loaded that the reporting connection rates on the routers status page for wireless devices isn't getting reported correctly. v1.02 and v1.04 don't exhibit this issue. I did gaming on v1.03 with 2 xboxes, one wired and one wireless and didn't see any problems other than the normal junk that goes on with XBL and the servers.
Seem that maybe there could be a possible configuration or interference issue with your 826L if downloads are stopping.

I have the same issue on the 2.4GHz band with my laptop (even when it's in the same room as the router), but not the 5GHz band on my desktop (in another room). Both are wireless connections, although I am on a cable modem and not a DSL line.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer (http://www.teamviewer.com) if your interested. Its safe and secure.
