Title: Changing Routers Question
Post by: mrsr71 on July 31, 2013, 10:07:48 AM
Hello,

I'm changing (installing new) my Linksys router. Do I have go through the entire camera set-up again for each camera (I have six) or is there an easier way?

Thanks...Dan

If you have IPs reserved for each camera on the prior router, then just ensure that the new router has the same reservations for those IP addresses.

Unfortunately I don't.

I recommend that you start Reserving IP addresses for your devices. Helps to ensure that each device gets it's own IP address each time, avoids any conflicts and helps in troubleshooting and configuration.

I presume you are referring to configuration for mydlink. I migrated from a DIR-615 to a DIR-857 to a DIR-868L router with no loss of mydlink service. The mydlink service uses the camera ID (hard coded in the camera) as a unique identifier, so the IP address should not matter.

This makes perfect sense if you think about the fact that most users have their router configured for DHCP (with no reserved or static IP address), so when a device is removed/re-added to/from the network or the router is rebooted, the camera IP address often changes, yet mydlink connectivity remains intact.

In short, you should not have to reconfigure your cameras to maintain continuity of service.

I should also add that we also moved a year ago (i.e. changed address) and mydlink connectivity remained unbroken even though our ISP IP address changed.  ;)

Thanks all for the replies. I'll give it a shot when my new router is delivered tomorrow.

Well, FAILURE..... >:(

My new router doesn't recognize any of my six cameras. So, starting with the original install disc I reset one camera and followed the instructions to a T. When I get to the page that resets the password, I get a message that the camera will not update. I hit re-try and still will not update. I've tried the wired method and the wireless method with no luck.

I re-booted the router and the desktop PC to no avail.

Any suggestions??

Also, can someone provide a link to the Linksys DCS-932L setup .exe? Maybe the original disc is the culprit (?)

PS. I've connected my iPhones, two laptops, wifi thermostat, TV, and blue-ray player to the new router with zero problems.

What firmware version is installed on the DCS-932L that you reset? The later firmware versions are not backwards compatible with older versions of the Wizard setup software included on the CD that came with your camera. You can find the latest wizard software on the http://mydlink.com/support website.

Firmware is unknown as I can't connect to tell. I believe it's the latest because I try stay current.

The wizard software is not available at https://www.mydlink.com/support for the DCS-932L. Shall I try the 933L instead?

Thanks...Dan

I REALLY don't want to come across as argumentative and I REALLY appreciate your help and support but, there is no software install wizard for the DCS-932L at http://mydlink.com/support.

There is software for the 931L & 933L but not the 932L. I did try the download for those and they do not work for the 932L.

I called D-Link and was put on hold for a hour and 15 minutes and I just gave up >:(

So - I now have six cameras that are useless and are for sale at a reasonable price. I have all of the boxes and documentation that came with them.

No worries.  Here's the direct download link I copied from the website: http://d2okd4tdjucp2n.cloudfront.net/Setup_wizard_932L_v1.02.10.zip (http://d2okd4tdjucp2n.cloudfront.net/Setup_wizard_932L_v1.02.10.zip)

Alternatively, you can find the wizard software here: http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/ -- but the software may be stored as an ISO (not sure).

What router are you using?

What router were you using?  Is the old router totally dead?

Interesting... At least I can see the setup wizard for 932L in the place JavaLawyer indicated  ???

There are actually these three options to select:

Windows Setup Wizard
Mac OS setup utility
D-ViewCam
