Title: HARDWARE versions
Post by: coleman6 on August 02, 2013, 09:42:42 AM
Can someone explain the differences between the A1 and A2 Hardware versions. I sent my defective dns325 in to d-link for replacement under warranty. I sent in a Hardware Version A2 but the replacement they sent was a Hardware Version A1. Should I be asking for them to send me the same Hardware version I sent in?

Both hardware versions use the same firmware, so the changes shouldn't impact the usability of the DNS-325 from that perspective. In other cases, such as the DNS-320, a "B1" hardware version was released that uses a different firmware family as the "A" series.

As far as differences between hardware versions are concerned, newer hardware series typically have subtle differences in engineering specifications to improve upon the design (i.e. slightly different components, different power supply etc.). I can not speak to the differences specific to the DNS-325 "A1" and "A2". Requesting a replacement "A2" model or sticking with your "A1" model is a judgement call that you'll have to make.

Without knowing if there are any significant issues to consider, it is difficult to make a reasoned decision. It seems from your post that any differences would be subtle at best. So, I am inclined to unpack the NAS from its box, fire it up, update the firmware and hope for the best.
