I bought the new DLINK Gaming Router the other day and I have been having a bunch of issues with it. I am having issues on the 2.4 band with my samsung galaxy tab staying connected. I have also had the router hard reboot on it's own a few times. I have also had the router reboot when I was in the config as well. The internet connection will just die sometimes as well with the need to reboot. Just seems like a really buggy firmware. Not a good start but I will stick through it and see if they fix these problems.

Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=41537.0)
- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
- What region are you located?
Is Auto Bandwidth Estimation Enabled or disabled?
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
- What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
- What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
- What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
- Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53008.0)
- For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.]
- Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
- Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53222.0)
- Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
- Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
- Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming.
- Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6)
Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48327.0) and Managing Signal Congestion (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53228.0)
- Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
- What wireless modes are you using?
- 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
- Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
- Try setting a manual Channel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_channel) to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
- What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Encryption_Standard), so you might want to try TPIK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_Key_Integrity_Protocol) only or Auto TPIK and AES.
- What wireless devices do you have connected?
- Any cordless house phones?
- Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/) to find out. How many?

Do a factory reset and configure it again.. I had to do that to get a few things working.

good to know getting mine in the mail tomorrow, will just reset it right away before messing around with it

It's recommended to try your router out of the box and set it up with out a factory reset. It's already been reset before it goes in the box. Besides this issue could be localized to the OP or a configuration issue. Lets see what the OP has to respond before jumping the gun.

I tried resetting twice now to factory default and now the router is just rebooting like crazy. They really need to fix this.

Can you answer some of the questions and post your results so we can get a better idea of what your situation is. Your router seems to be the only one with this problem.

H/W Ver.:A1
F/W Ver.:1.01
ABE: Disabled
Cable
Comcast
Motorola SB6121
Download 50meg Upload 10meg
MTU 1500
Tried everything you suggested and no luck still. Very unstable product it seems with the first firmware. My Asus router gives me no issues.

Ok lets try this, Turn OFF everything, accept for 1 wired LAN PC. Disable the 2.4Ghz radio. Leave the 5Ghz radio going. Save settings on the router. Power OFF the router and ISP modem. Power ON the ISP modem first then the DGL-5500 about 30 seconds later. Check the status and Internet function with your wired PC. If you have any other 5Ghz devices, graduate each one and connect them and test.
Then turn ON the 2.4Ghz radio, leaving the Samsung Galaxy Tab OFF. Test the 2.4Ghz radio with a few other devices.
Let us know if you see any other reboots during this process. Trying to see if we can help you narrow down where the problem could be coming from.

I have the SB 6120 and 50/2 ISP here. However I don't have any Samsung devices.
Keep us posted.

Already tried that. I actually went as far as only having one device plugged in and all wireless disabled and I was still getting reboots. Hell I was getting reboots just on the config page.
Problems don't seem with wireless other than my samsung galaxy tab and now my roku 3 as well. Where they keep disconnecting and reconnecting to the router.
Every since I tried doing the factory default things have been up and down like crazy. The router just flat out rebooting for no reason. I also know I am not the first person that has had issues with the config page and with reboots.

Only think I might do a factory reset, use IE or FF to resend the v1.01 FW to re-seat it, factory reset once more after the router comes to ready then set up from scratch.

If this fails, I recommend that you return it to the place of purchase or phone contact D-Link support and get it into RMA. This seems localized to your unit.
Keep us posted.

I will wait until they release a new firmware to see if they can work out the kinks.
-
I would give a re-load of the FW a try though...New FW may or may not fix your problem, we hope it might though. We've found that doing a reload of FW after a factory reset can help. Besides, could be months before we see something.

I will probably still wait for a new firmware. Doubt it will be months. Usually when a new router comes out they have a few for the first few months.
Not much in my area and the signals are weak at best. I also have no other issues with the other router I have which is a dual band as well.

Ok, keep us posted.

Did the factory reset and then re did the firmware and still no luck. Same issues as before. Config times out. I even noticed one time that it gave me a comcast ip through the router which is messed up. It should have given me a 192.
-
Well up to you, I would probably return the 5500 to place of purchase for another one to test. Seems that your unit could be just bad all around. If other routers are working for you and other users here in the forums are working for them with the 5500, then just point to yours being bad.
-
It is being sent back for a full refund.

Hope you enjoy the DIR-825. ;)
