I haven't done anything fancy with the setup...I am just having constant disconnects while gaming on the 2.4 GHz band. Two different laptops, both of which had no issues with my old GamerLounge Wireless G router over the past several years I had it. I do not loose connection on my desktop, the modem and router stay connected...So I am at a loss and require assistance!
Thanks in advance!

Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=41537.0)
- What region are you located?
- Has a Factory Reset been performed?
- How far way is the client devices from the router?
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
- What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
- What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
- What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
- Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53008.0)
- For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
- Turn off Auto Bandwidth Estimator as a test.
- Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
- Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53222.0)
- Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
- Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
- WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
- Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48695.0) feature. Tools/Time.
Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48327.0) and Managing Signal Congestion (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53228.0)
- Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
- What wireless modes are you using?
- 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
- Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
- Try setting a manual Channel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_channel) to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
- What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Encryption_Standard), so you might want to try TPIK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_Key_Integrity_Protocol) only or Auto TPIK and AES.

- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
- What region are you located?
- Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
- Was the router working before any firmware updates?
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
- What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
- If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm) and How NAT Works (http://cognitiveanomalies.com/cisco-nat-how-nat-works/). To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
- Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53008.0)
- Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6)

- If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI (http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-features/30969-what-do-80211ns-optional-features-mean-for-you), WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

no problem, at at all with default settings !!! is my DGL 5500 Defective?
I fallow all the steps for upgrading and configuring the DGL 5500. What will be your advice?
-
Can you test the PS and PC out on wired connections doing the same things and see if the problem follows?
Any chance you can try 5Ghz?
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
Try turning OFF or ON Short GI and HT 20/40 Co-exhistence
-
I just Finish testing the devices wired for the ps not slow downs and the pc it is always wired same horrible lag.
I changed to the various wireless modes stild experiencing slowdowns and disconnections. 2.4ghz
I have no problems at all when i used the Dir 825.
-
So these were tested?
WPA2/AES only?
Try turning OFF or ON Short GI and HT 20/40 Co-exhistence?
-
I am getting the same results =(
-
Ok, so if you turn off all other devices and stream only from one device or gaming using one device, does the same thing happen?
When you are testing are you connecting all devices and operating them at the same time?
-
Nop i was testing the devices individually one at a time

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
I'll fire up my 5500 and run some tests on it...I believe I had tested some WiFi file xfer speeds and didn't see any issues, however it's been a while since I played around with the 2.4Ghz radio.
-
Ok, I got my 5500 set in wired AP mode with both radios going. Got my boxee box set up on 2.4Ghz using Single mode N, WPA2/AES only, Manual channel 1, HT20/40Mhz Co-existence OFF. Boxee box is 10ft away from the 5500. Streaming from Netflix and will stream from local file server.
-
Ok, just completed a 1.5 hour movie using the 2.4Ghz radio on the 5500 with out disconnections using the boxee box.
SB settings are as follows:
Enabled
Down and UP values are at default 100.00 and 10.00
ABE enabled.
-
Mine got disconnected after a 2 hours of streaming and playing ps4 games using the same setting you are using. I guess i will keep using my old router until a new firmware is release. before I decide to returned.....
after the first disconnection it just keeps disconnecting every 30 minutes it is very unstable.

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Please let us know...
Also try WPA2 and TPIK only as a test...
-
Hi I think i manage to get the router a bit stable i just disable media server option since i don't use it and keep the HT20/40Mhz Co-existence OFF like you suggested it seems to be working a lot better but not as good as dir825 . Maybe the media server option is bunged every time i turn it on horrible horrible things happen anyways i will keep playing with it.
there are about 5 more router in the AREA but most of them are channel 1 and 6 . i am using channel 11. I believe these router will keep getting better as time progresses. Thank you for suggestions and great help :)

Is any USB drives connected to the router while Media Server is enabled? If not, you can disable media server...
