Title: How do i configure Firefly ?
Post by: Banshee1971 on May 17, 2009, 06:55:28 PM

How do i spell the Music Folder ?

for now, the default are /mnt/HD_a2,...
All my music are in /Volume_1/Musiques

How do i write this in Firefly ?
I try multiple way, and it's not working. I probably use the wrong sentence.

Try /mnt/HD_a2/Musiques/

Volume_1 = /mnt/HD_a2
Volume_2 = /mnt/HD_b2

I believe the folder permissions may not be setting correctly when installing the add-on so the settings file is not being correctly modified (or at all).

Will look into some more :0

What is firefly?

Firefly is essentially what we were using on the NAS's already for the iTunes server functionality. It is also known as mt-daapd (old version). We are updating it to support more file types as well as Playlist management.

Are you updating Firefly, or are you updating the DNS-323?

We are updating mt-daapd to the newer version, firefly.

So built-in mt-daapd will be removed (in final 1.08 firmware) and Firefly (as APKG package) will be the only iTunes server ?

That is the plan. There is no reason to run both...its the same thing just updated code.

Are there similar plans to make UPnP AV server an APKG package (maybe replace it with Mediatomb for example?) ?

So is there anyway to resolve this?  I'm sort of dead in the water on the Beta till there is a fix for this.

It will be addressed in the final release.

Ok well in the mean time what folder do I put the music in to make the iTunes Server work then?

For now it is non-functional in the currently released beta. You will either need to downgrade to use the old mt-daapd, or wait for another release.

I had a post about AppleTV on the main board, but this seems like a good place.  Does Firefly help me to connect my AppleTV to the DNS-323?  Or, how could I?

Thanks!

I would really like to see a replacement add-on of Mediatomb as well.  Media server is just about useless to me without being able to transcode to a format my Directv DVR will display.  I can do mediashare of mp3's from Windows Media player, but can do very little from the DNS-323's media server.

It is  a great file storage device, and I have been able to use it with iTunes on my laptop, but I am longing for a better media server.  The idea of downloadable add-on apps is a great direction.  In fact many of the 323's functions could be deleted from firmware and moved to add-on's allowing users to customize their units with apps of their choice that can be improved and updated one at a time without needing a complete firmware upgrade.

Keep up the good work!
