Hi,
Hi have a DIR-655 connected to a few PCs and cellphones and everything works.
However, the signal strength is too weak in parts of the house so I bought a DIR-505 to allow wi-fi access to that area.
Should I use "Repeater" mode?
I've plugged it in close to the DIR-655 to make sure there's a connection.
The DIR-505's light is green.
I cannot connect with 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.100, 192.168.1.1
Q1) How can connect and I set it up?
Q2) Since I bought it in Taiwan I expect the menu to be in Chinese. Can I change it into English?
Q3) The DIR-655's device page [http://192.168.11.1/st_device.asp] show this:
0.0.0.0 00:24:04:ff:24:fc
Is the the DIR-505?
Thanks,
Andy

- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
- What region are you located?
- Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
- Has a Factory Reset been performed?
Repeater mode should work if your trying to extend range.
Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48327.0) and Managing Signal Congestion (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53228.0)
- Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
- What wireless modes are you using?
- 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
- Try setting a manual Channel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_channel) to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
- What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Encryption_Standard), so you might want to try TPIK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_Key_Integrity_Protocol) only or Auto TPIK and AES.
- What wireless devices do you have connected?
- Any cordless house phones?
- Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/) to find out. How many?

DIR-655: B1, 2.00
Taiwan
PCS connected by wire, & cellphones connect wirelessly. No problems
No resets performed - other than the very rare pulling the plug.
Sounds like I should be able to connect with 192.168.0.1?
Correct?
I've changed my router's SSID name
Wireless modes? Everything's in Chinese, so it's probably the defaults.
Setting channel on DIR-655? It's in Chinese... How?
Security: yes WPA-Personal
Cellphones are connected to DIR-655 - no problems
Yes, there are some neighbor's wifi signals in here, but they're very weak. The 505 is about 5m away from the 655.
Thank you.

Can you connect to 192.168.0.50? You should be able to connect to the main routers IP address at 192.168.0.1 if that has not changed.
I would do a factory reset on the 505 and use the wizard to help you establish the repeater mode connection.
What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded on the 505?

HW: A1
FW: 1.06(TW)
I've pressed the factory reset with a paperclip. The green light is back on now.
192.168.0.1 & 192.168.0.50: Cannot connect
Searching for wifi devices on my cellphone: I *can* see the 505 with a strong signal, so we know it's on.
Web browser link: http://dlinkrouterxxx.local.: cannot connect [with our without the trailing '.']
The 505 is straight out of the box, and I haven't changed/touched anything - except for the repeater switch.
All I've done is plugged it in and waited for the green light. The green light is on.

Router/AP mode works:
I've connected the 505 to my 655 with the supplied Ethernet.
On my cellphone, I serached for WLan devices and can connect using the details on hte supplied card.
Great the 505 works.
So to my original question: How can I connect to the setup page?
Neither of these work
dlinkrouter
dlinkrouterxxxx.local.
192.168.0.1
192.168.0.50
192.168.0.100
After resetting up my 655, I can see the DIR-505 has an ip adress of 192.168.11.4
Yet 192.168.11.4 won't take me to the setup screen.
How can I set up the router with a USB?

Try using 192.168.11.4 to connect to the 505 Web page...
