Hallo,
new here, I like to get support with my problem:
Under "applications - local backups" it's possible to install a "LAN-backup" backing up files/ folders from my pc to the dns-325. At "url" I think I have to enter ip or name of my pc and the file or folder I like to back up i.e. the source to be backed up. No matter what I enter, the system -"test" says "fail"- only accepts the ip of the nas.
Did I misinterpret the instructions or is that a bug.
I appreciate any support; thx in advance.

Hi,
I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure, you can't use the 325's backup to backup files from a windows pc. The back up seems to only work with other similar Dlink devices. It might work with some linux pc's but I doubt that too. I also think that it is difficult to get say a W7 pc to use it's backup to work with any nas too although it might work if you map the nas as a drive. I do know that there is free software available to do this fairly easily. SyncBack is one and there is another named Allway Sync. There are others too I believe. If no one can give you a solution, you might try one of those. Good luck.

Hi cable2,
thx for your reply.
You're absolutely right; there is other backup software as well. I use f.ex. Acronis and it works very well, exept the free WD-edition doesn't offer differential or incremential backups. The Win7 built-in backup software works fine and I have the option to store the files on a network drive (NAS).
I just tried to test the DNS-352 built-in backup software and the manual says that under LAN-backup you have the choice between one HDD in the NAS to the other and from a PC to the NAS -no matter what pc/ OS-; that's what I try to install.
Additonally: I got some CD together with the NAS including some freebackup software. They say the key is on the back of the cover: but there isn't any key. So what.
I keep on trying to get the DNS-325 backup tool work hoping that there are some more ideas "in the cloud".
