Title: error message - used obsolete MD ioctl, upgrade your software to use new ictls
Post by: drick on May 19, 2009, 08:57:25 AM
hi,

in poking around the syslog on my 323, i noticed the following error message:

May 19 07:04:11 DNS323 user.warn kernel: md: mdadm(pid 15213) used obsolete MD ioctl, upgrade your software to use new ictls.

i see from another post (http://forum.dsmg600.info/viewtopic.php?id=3800) that others have seen this on a 323 as well but don't see any further information about it.

is this something to be concerned about?

I noticed this too! I have a RAID1 configuration. I do not know whether this is something I should be concerned about! Is my data safe? Is RAID1 working properly?

I'm using the official 1.08 firmware.

Personally, I wouldn't be concerned. It looks like a warning about a deprecated component. The box is still doing what it is supposed to.

A quick google search brings up this statement. Might be relevant.

"Its a missing ioctl handler in the MD driver.  Its fixed in
later 2.4 revisions, and is harmless."

Thanks, Jamie. I googled for quite a while and didn't find anything, but perhaps I was being too specific... checking those errors related to the 323.
