Title: Nas becomes unresponsive
Post by: noem on May 20, 2009, 01:05:44 AM
Hi.

Hardware Version:B1
Firmware Version: 1.08
Software Version (Easy Search):

Harddrive 1:1 TB WD10EACS
Harddrive 2:1 TB WD10EACS

Problem Type:

Not responsive via web or when you press front button

Problem Description:
My nas is constantly on. I upgraded to 1.08 a couple of days ago because of the nfs out of the box addition. Now when used for a while 1 ~ 3 hours and then it goes to sleep it will not "wake up" anymore. You cannot log on via web or it does not respond to pushing the button to anymore. I have to pull the plug and that way it will boot up and then I can log on again.  :-\

I'm running RAID1 with BT and NFS apps installed. FTP server running. LLTD on. Itunes, DHCP and UPNP turned off. http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/710/captureqpo.jpg

I turned off power recovery as my unit doesn't support that. Now instead my hdds never go to sleep, they are constantly spinning.  :-[ And after a while i becomes unresponsive like above.

I cannot have this so I went back to 1.06 (my unit came with 1.04 but at first boot I upgraded to 1.06).

When downgrading the problem with no spindown continuned. I had to reset the unit on the backside and then finally when it was back to factory default the unit finally spindown and spinup correctly. To bad 1.08 didn't workout for me. Really liked the NFS out of the box feature. Eagerly awaiting to try final and hope these issues I have is something to do with me doing something wrong  ;D

I also seem to have the same problem, it mostly seems to be with NFS being active.

NO DHCP
Standard Drives Two Volumes
BT Installed not running
1.08 Firmware

I have a feeling that it is overheating, so have now set the fan to Manual (Always on high). The other two settings (Auto) for the fan do not appear to be working at all.

I will report back later after seeing whether or not it has crashed again.

(later on)... It has crashed again.

Yeah i am getting the same thing guys.

I have all of the application packs installed but only had Bonjour, NFS and No-IP running. I had not reset my unit to defaults so i have just done that now and also stopped Bonjour from running, leaving NFS and No-IP running. Hibernate is turned on.

Will let you know how the changed settings go.

I had the same problem with RAID1 and NFS. I am not 100% sure, but it may have worked with FFP enabled (just the telnet, and it would close connection on any keyboard input). I am back to 1.07.

I can also confirm that it seemed to be the NFS that was causing my problem. I have two NAS' and i turned NFS off on one and left it on in the other.... it seems the NFS isn't allowing the disks to spin down or something as the one with NFS turned on runs constantly with the fans switching between low and high (never goes to off) and crashes after a while of no use (it could be crashing when it is trying to go in to hibernate?). By crash i mean that i am unable to log in to the NFS or the web GUI. The drive with NFS turned off sits with the fan off and is not as hot. I haven't lost connectivity to it either. So yeah - definite issues with the NFS.

FYI i have installed all the packages but they are all stopped except the NFS.

If anymore info is required let me know.

Obviously this will need to be fixed in the final release, but has anyone attempted a factory reset?  After I installed the 1.08b, I had quite a few issues which were all resolved after doign a factory reset.

Overall with 1.08, the web GUI seems to be "zippier".  The UnPNP media server is MUCH faster when accessing videos from my Xbox360.  Looks good so far!

Yes, I did a factory reset and it didn't help.

What sort of video are you streaming to the 360? mp4 or wmv?

Is there any word on how development is proceeding?

Sadly I have to report the same issue since I upgraded to 1.08 and installed nfs server app.
Only removing power lead resets device.

Same hardware/firmware

Just curious what are you using EXT2 or EXT3.  Is it possible one is causing the constant spin and the other does not?
