Title: DAP-1360 user limit setting
Post by: roekroek on September 26, 2013, 02:56:55 PM
I have a DAP-1360 setup as a repeater for my DIR655 router.
I use MAC filtering to allow my equipment to connect.
The DAP-1360 has the ability to enable a user limit (1-32) I unchecked this box but I can only put in 8 MAC addresses.
Checking the user limit box and putting in the number 32 (or any other number > 8 devices) still limits me to a list of 8 possible MAC addresses.

Anyone out there who succeeded in connecting > 8 devices with MAC filtering on?
Any suggestions.

TX!

I would recommend that you have the 655 handle all of the MAC filter rules...

Thanks for your reply,

My router is on the 3rd floor. In order to accommodate wifi in the living room on the first floor I added the repeater. The PC on the second floor had a bad performance. I believe (but I am not 100% sure) that this had to do with fact that the equipment on the second floor receives signals both from the router and the repeater causing some kind of collision.

My solution is to use two approved MAC lists one for the router and one for the repeater. The Equipment on the second floor is only approved on the router. It works.

I will take your advice to set up the MAC filtering on the router only.
I guess I can select different fixed channels for the Router and the repeater to minimise problems on the second floor.

I will share the results.

Thanks for your remarks I added my comments below in red.
I have tried all the options you mentioned including the MAC filtering on the router only and NOT on the repeater and the lower power setting of the router.
Conclusion is that the existing option performs best.
The question is still how to add more MAC addresses to the repeater (32 should be possible)

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion
•   What wireless modes are you using? I use repeater mode
•   2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
•   Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only. Is set for 20 only
•   Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
•   What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES. I use WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES
•   What wireless devices do you have connected? Ipad, iphone, W7 PC, W8 PC, Vista PC, Android phones,..
•   Any cordless house phones? 3
•   Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? 13
•   If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless. Short GI is unchecked,
•   Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless. Is enabled
•   Try setting Medium or Low power output settings and test again Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless. High has the best performance.

If you have 13, you maybe seeing some interferences from these other WiFi radios.

Are any of the cordless phones on the 2.4Ghz frequency?

I don't know if the DAP handles any MAC addresses of that quanity. Most routers only handle 25. You might need to ask D-Link about this feature.

D-Link replied taht despite the settings of max 32 MAC adresses the DAP-1360 can only handle 8 MAC adresses.

Thanks guys.
