Title: Smart TV accessing USB drive
Post by: kramdhan on September 27, 2013, 12:37:47 PM
I recently got this router and would like to be able to get to the USB drive from a Smart TV.  The Smart TV does not see the USB Drive or router.
I can see the USB drive from a PC.
What am I doing wrong

You need to check to ensure that your TV is supporting of seeing a USB device on the router and supports the use of any various file formats like, MP4, MP3, MOV and such. If your PC can see and stream from the USB drive, this tell us that the TV may not support it or not have some features or if the TV is supposed to, the TV feature may not be functioning as expected. You'll need to contact the TV mfr and ask them for help and let them know that other devices can see the drive, however the TV can not.

Also only supported formatting for any USB connected drive is NTFS. FAT32 isn't supported.

USB drive is 1TB formatted to NTFS.  If I plug the drive at the back of the TV, it works fine, I can get to all the media that is stored.  I am located in Canada

How is the TV connected to the router? LAN wired or WiFi?
Is the Storage section of the router set up as well? Please reference page 53 of the User Manual for basic set up information.

Also be advised that officially only 500Gb drives are supported when connected to the 826L. Do you have a smaller size drive to test out to see if the TV and view the files? I have tested a 2Tb drive however I haven't on this one since I don't have a TV that supports any WiFi or LAN connections. I tested the use of 2Tb and D-Links Shareport SW. Wasn't working well.  :-\

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.

@ FurryNtuz, thanks very much for your quick reply.
I have checked all that you recommended, however I am unable to change the data and time on the router.
I enable NTP, selected a server, saved, but the time does not change

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

3rd Party Security Software Configurations

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
6" minimum safe distance between devices.

Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8 or 9, set compatibility mode and test again.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

The modem modelis Sagemcom 2864 Connection Hub
BTW, now I can see the drive on the 2 Smart TVs, however I do not see all the files.
At one time I only saw about 4 folders.
I rebooted the router and now I see about 12 folders but still not seeing all the folders from the Smart TV
Also, access to the router web page is very slow.
I can get to othe we pages a lot faster and teh router web page times out very fast also

What region are you located?

Is IPv4 and IPv6 Multicast Streaming enabled under Advanced/Advanced Networking?
Has a factory reset been performed then set up from scratch?

Also ensure that your TVs support all or the media files that you have placed on the USB drive.

I believe that D-Link routers only support a few file types...
