Title: D-815 shows less information than D-615
Post by: oldyellr on October 01, 2013, 08:45:26 AM
I have a D-Link DIR-815 wireless router connected to a desktop computer on DSL, serving some laptops and other devices. Prior to that I was using a DIR-615, but switched under the assumption the 815 would have more range, which isn't true. I solved the range problem by relocating the router to a more central location, but I have another problem.

When I logged in to the 615 router I could see the names of all the devices on the wireless network as well as their IP addresses and MAC addresses. With the 815 router I don't see the device names and have to guess "who" is connected. Is there any way I can get the same information with the 815 as I did with the 615? The firmware version is 1.01.

What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8 or 9, set compatibility mode and test again.

Okay, that's a pile of information, but I'm overwhelmed. Do I even know if a firmware upgrade will help? Okay, I just checked and my firmware is current.
All I know for sure is that with the 615 I was able to see the names of the clients connected to the wifi, but with the 815 when I go to Status/Wireless all I can see is their IP and MAC addresses. Am I missing something, or has the 815 removed access to this information?

May have been removed...
Looking at other DIR series routers, only MAC, IP, Rate and Signal are available in the Status/Wireless section. Host name isn't available. You can find that under Setup/Networking.

You can see whats connected under Status/Device info/Connected Devices/ LAN or Wireless.

Also you have to ensure that each of your devices have the host name set up and a name used. Sometimes only UNKNOWN is listed on the router for some devices.

That's it! I see all the host names there. I don't know how I didn't find it before. Maybe it was easier to find on the 615.

Thanks buddy!
