Title: Putting Website on D-Link DNS-320
Post by: Dean235 on October 10, 2013, 09:13:25 AM
The DNS-320 has a FTP server. I have a website and want to host it on my dns-320. I am not planning to host anything major such as Google or Microsoft.

Is it possible to do that?

Also I can access the FTP server within my network but if I access it outside it won't. I already have a DDNS account but I don't know what to do? can someone guide me? My BT Home Hub 4 can do dynamic DNS but it doesn't seem to forward it or whatever.

Just another thing to add.... When I access the FTP using normal means, I am asked no password even when restarting my computer. But when I select use ssl/tsl connection only it asks me for a password and then when I enter it, chrome goes no data recieved?

To host a website you need a webserver with all the necessary support programs.  The DNS-320 in standard form will not do that.

If, on the other hand, you just want to serve files then the built-in FTP server will do that with ease.  To be able to access the FTP server from outside your internal network requires setting up your gateway router/modem correctly - opening the correct ports and making sure they are forwarded correctly as well as making sure the firewall settings will allow it.  I'm not sure that the BT home hub will allow you to do all that - a friend in the UK had to use another router/modem to allow her to do that.
