So far I've been pretty happy with my DCS-5010L and think the video image is great. However, I don't like how I am unable to make it Auto Pan/Tilt. I am trying to use this as a security camera so it would be nice if I could get it to automatically go from position 1 to position 2 and back, like my DCS-5300G. Its pretty pointless to use this as a security camera if I physically need to sit here and change where this camera is facing...
Has anyone had any luck getting this camera to Pan/Tilt on its own(automatically)? Any ideas or ways on how to accomplish this? Thanks!

Are you looking for a patrol?
You can log into the camera's firmware (f/w) and set up to 20+ positions...
I'm not familiar with the 5300... i am seein***outube on it.. looks old

Yes, this is what I'm looking for. I have set different positions but how can I get it to automatically scan thru those selected positions? The only way I can figure it out is if I physically select position2, or position3. Would be nice if this would happen automatically like the 5300g

There are no existing options through firmware or mydlink that will provide the functionality you are looking for.

you are talking about cams at 5x the price point for the feature you want.

IMHO there would not be a great deal of coding required to offer this feature.

well.. I think blsapdlink and Javalawyer are both right. It's not a big deal for firmware to implement this function. But it need lots of sophisticated mechanical and cabling design (test) to make sure the device could continuously pan/tilt for years without physical defects. It costs much more money and time to develop this function.

I do think this function would be feasible as a single scan option (via a button on the web UI and mydlink), where the camera iterates once through all predefined positions in a single sweep with a 1 second (or so) pause between locations, without placing undo strain on the pan/tilt motor. This feature would be useful for passive checks either through mydlink or the DCS-5010L web UI.
For those who are interested, this functionality is already available with the DCS-5010L using the latest version of D-ViewCam. Using D-ViewCam, the preset positions saved in the DCS-5010L FW can be placed as an event in any order. Additionally, the same preset position can be listed multiple times during a single event/scan.

Thanks for this info! Its exactly what I was looking for. I have a DCS-5300G which allows me to set positions and then "set patrol" all through the DNR-322 GUI, but unfortunately there is no option to do this with the DCS-5010L. However the D-ViewCam app works great and the camera is roving and doing exactly what I want it to do after setting everything up through D-ViewCam
