- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
- What region are you located?
Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48327.0) and Managing Signal Congestion (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53228.0)
- Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
- What wireless modes are you using?
- 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
- Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
- Try setting a manual Channel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_channel) to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
- What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Encryption_Standard), so you might want to try TPIK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_Key_Integrity_Protocol) only or Auto TPIK and AES.
- Any cordless house phones?
- Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer (http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5936-inssider.html) to find out. How many?
- If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI (http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-features/30969-what-do-80211ns-optional-features-mean-for-you), WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
- Enable WMM Enable (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50738.0) Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Thanks FurryNutz, I will follow your instructions, but first let me provide some information:
my router HW ver: A4, F/W ver: 1.32NA (factory), ver:1.35NA updated
My internet speed is 10mb, but with the wifi I am getting only around 7mb which is OK, however, sometimes when I watch Youtube I get buffering from time to time which makes me feel that my internet speed it going down, and another test with a WiFi analyzer app for android, it has a meter that is not stable, so it is going up and down form -55 to -65dbm, although I am not sure how accurate is this app, another info is that the best channels are 12, 13, and 14, but they are not available in the router, and I live in a buliding which has a lot of routers with channels that are overlaps with mine.
I just found a new F/W 1.37, I will try it.

Please follow this if you update FW:
FW Update Process (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42457.0)

first sorry for the late reply, we had power outage problem, anyway, unfortunately, I upgraded the router before seeing your instructions, and I used the method of saving the setting and then restore it, so, should I do the factory reset and then re-upload the new SW and re-enter the setting manually as per your instructions?
-
Yes, factory reset once more after sending the FW file then setup the router manually from scratch.
Keep us posted. Hope it helps.
-
OK, I did factory reset and manually setting up the router, I will see if there will be any improvement, however, is there any app or program to analyse the wireless performance, as I mentioned, I am using WiFi analyzer for android but I don't know how reliable this app.

Keep us posted...

Although I am still testing, I would like to provide an update:
First, let me summarise my problems:
1. When I watch video with my Android phone the video freezes from time to time which give me impression that the WiFi connection drops.
2. Although my internet speed from the service provider is 10Mbps, but when I check the speed using Android App I am getting very low speed and not stable, speed from 2 to 6Mbps.
3. When I turn on my Android Phone and although I see the connection in the top I can’t surf the internet until I turn OFF the WiFi and then turn it ON.
What I did so far:
1. Fist I tried to change the Router WiFi setting as per the instructions I read.
2. I updated the FW.
3. I thought the problem is due a week signal, so I bought Repeater, but I didn’t help because if the signal is week from the Router, the Repeater will receive it week and then send it week, however, I set it up wirelessly and I didn’t try to set it up wired.
Finally,
1. I changed the setting to have the security WPA2, and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) instead of TKIP, the WiFi speed improved.
2. I used another App to test the speed and the result was much better than the first App (I don’t know which is more reliable).
3. I noticed that IOS devices (Iphone and Ipad) having better WiFi signal and speed than the Android devices.
4. When the devices that connected to the router are on (I have 2 computers connected wirely, and IOS and Android devices wirelessly), it affect the internet speed (which is normal).
Only one question, when I changed the setting for WPA2 and AES, I had a warring message, is there anything wrong to continue with this setting?
-
WPA2 and AES is recommended and has the best Wireless performance.
What was this warning message about?
What is the distances between the router and your devices. I presume that if the iPhones are working well, that there could be an issue with the Android phone...
-
See below for the warning message, and I live i apartment with 2 rooms, so my router in the living room and 2 rooms are far by around 25 meters, the IPhone works fine with the speed, but sometimes in the room it loses the signal specially when the door is close, there is no constant answer, every time I test I have different result, one of the factor that might cause the problem is that in the building has so many routers that might use same channel, and even when I choose the least used channel, with time the other routers might use the same channel and that maybe why I have different results.
BTW, I am surprised when I see other networks from other apartments with stronger signals.
(Warnings were raised as a result of configuration changes.
You should examine these warnings, because some features may have been disabled or modified.
Changing wireless security settings may cause Wi-Fi protected Setup to not function as expected.
Some configuration changes have an effect upon other system settings. Those changes may impact in a negative way, raising warnings that need to be communicated to you. A warning may indicate a feature has been modified, or even disabled, to match the new operating conditions.)

What region are you located?
Yes that is just a warning message. It's ok to proceed.
Review this if your in an area with lots of Wifi routers near by:
Managing Signal Congestion (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53228.0)
25 meters is very far. I recommend that you close the distance to 20-30 feet and test again. You may need a signal booster or extender as well. Not sure how that will work in a Wifi congested area.
-
I am in Montreal, I followed the instruction for Manage Signal Congestion, but the signal was weaker, so I restored the setting, anyway, that is it for me, it might be normal that problem I have either because the building has many other routers, the signal is weak in the room because the walls are isolated, or simply my router is not good for many devices connected.
Thanks FurryNutz for your help and being patient, and also thanks to all.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer (http://www.teamviewer.com) if your interested. Its safe and secure.
Good Luck.
