Title: hooked up timer to camera
Post by: G8tors on October 22, 2013, 03:43:49 AM
since there's no way to schedule the motion detection to work with the camera I hooked up a 7 day programmable timer.when the timer comes on the camera connects t to the network it starts working and when the timer turns off the camera turns off. .I'd like to know if anybody else has tried this, so far it has worked flawlessly.

Cool, sounds like the power may help with the camera being unresponsive.

There are a number of users who successfully applied that approach. . . that's where the FAQ post content came from (i.e. suggestions from other DCS-9XXL owners).

Little twist to this that I use to get around firmware limitation.  I use a http://www.jascoproducts.com/products/pc/GE-SunSmart-Seven-Day-Two-Outlet-Digital-Timer-81p1169.htm#.Unkc5PnBMmY GE Sunsmart timer to turn a camera on/off based on sunrise/sunset times (+/- tolerance of my choosing). This saves extra emails of black pictures.

What is the current setting of the DCS-932L Day/Night Mode? From your statement regarding "black pictures", it sounds like your DCS-932L is set to Always Day Mode

Using an Internet browser, log into your DCS-932L web UI and navigate to SETUP > Day/Night Mode > DAY/NIGHT MODE SETTINGS and try setting the DCS-932L to Auto.

If the camera is inside pointing outside like this one is Day/night is USELESS.  I was only interested in daytime pics since the firmware lacks any sort of sunrise/sunset control.  The GE Sunsmart timer solves this issue.
