Title: Temporarily turning off the camera!
Post by: Sputrit on October 27, 2013, 12:10:33 AM
Hi,

This might defeat the purpose of any security setting but is there a way of temporarily switching off or disabling the camera using the software? Obviously I can switch it off at the mains but being able to use the software would surely be better and if it is possible, can it be done remotely too? I can also see there's an option for removing the device but that would mean going through the set-up process every time I wanted to enable it.

Thanks and hope you can help.

If you want more control, you'll need some sort of home automation setup.

Lowe's IRIS or INSTEON come to mind...

Depending on your router's capabilities, you may be able to establish remote web access to your router UI and enable access controls to create policies that effectively open or block access to your DCS-932L. This is a clunky solution, but leaves your camera configuration unaltered.

http://3gstore.com/product/2062_ip_power_remote_switch.html  Not much else for much cheaper unless you roll your own (Redhill Networks etc.)
