Title: DLINK DIR-655 Virtual Servers stopped working
Post by: rdpjeff on October 27, 2013, 09:48:14 PM
I have had my DLINK D-655 configured and working to use Virtual Servers such that I can RDP from outside my network and access those systems for some time.  Suddenly, it stops working.  D-655 sits behind Comcast modem, but DIR-655 does all the work acting as DHCP Server.  I use the external fixed IP address from Comcast with a different port for the systems I want to get to.  Has worked fine, can't see anything that could be a problem but can't get to my systems from the outside anymore.  Ideas of what to check??  Something change on the comcast modem?  Something change on the DIR-655?? :P

What model is the ISP modem?
What FW version is currently loaded?

Does power cycling the router and modem do anything?

Hardware version on Dlink is 4A and Firmware is 1.21.
Comcast modem is SMC Networks hardware version 1.01 and firmware version 3.1.6.54.
Power cycling did not change the Dlink inability to allow the remote access.  smcd3g-ccr is the model number of the device.
What can be seen via logs about why this stopped working?

Possible something may have changed on the ISP services. Routers not do anything unless the users changes the configuration or the power supply goes bad.

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.

I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.

Save your routers config settings to file under Tool/System. Do a factory reset. Reload the config from file...test. If fails, factory reset once more then setup from scratch with out reloading the config file...test...
