Title: DNS-327L firmware on DNS-320L
Post by: gjrobertson on November 03, 2013, 06:26:13 AM
Hi All,

Can the DNS-327L be installed on the DNS-320L ? Looks like the features on 327L are much more from a software perspective specially the for Media streaminn via UPNP AV Server. As the stock one is quite limited.

I have a new Sony TV and cant stream and 1080p movies from the 320L but if i put the same movie on my WDTVLIVE Hub and stream it works fine

327l has twice the ram and a cpu nearly twice as powerfull.
maybe the firmware could work but probably its optimized for such a more powerfull machine.

The DNS-320L and DNS-327L have very different hardware designs from one another.  I highly doubt firmware will work across ShareCenter models. Even so, there's a strong likelihood that the DNS-320L will outright reject the DNS-320L firmware as incompatible -- the ShareCenter series have fail safes that prevent accidentally uploading firmware from the wrong model.  Even in the off chance that the DNS-327L FW successfully uploaded onto the DNS-320L, do you really want to trust untested firmware on a device designed as a primary repository for your data?
